Because of the Bay Area's microclimates, it can be really hard to know what will grow where. The Native Here Nursery is here to help you -- well, those of you who live in Contra Costa and Alameda counties.
The nursery, a project of the California Native Plant Society, grows plants native to the two East Bay counties and makes them available to customers from those communities. If you need advice on just which of their 15,000 plants will flourish in your block, they'll be glad to help you.
Located in Berkeley's Tilden Park, the Native Here Nursery is operated almost entirely by volunteers and so is open for limited hours on Fridays and Saturdays.
