6-23-08-urbanweeds-logo.jpgWe're used to having to eke out a modern vibe for our houseplants and patio using pots and plants from more traditional and country-style garden stores. It's not that it's terribly difficult to accomplish — multiples and succulents go a long way — but it is such a breath of fresh air to visit Urbanweeds, where modern indoor and small-space gardening is the central concept.

The pleasure of visiting Urbanweeds doesn't stop there; a cup or pot of tea can be chosen from a selection listed on a chalkboard behind the check-out counter, to drink while you shop. If you opt for the pot, you can sit at the brushed-steel display table or outdoor furniture for sale in the shop's airy, indoor-outdoor space.

Open for almost exactly one year in Seattle's Fremont neighborhood, the store has worked to give back to the local community via a benefit program that will donate up to 25% of sales on a given day. Urbanweeds also stocks products from local artists and designers, like these (purely decorative) glass slugs, below.

One of the most impressive things about Urbanweeds — and why it'll be a regular stop on our Fremont shopping circuit — is that even with all the hip bells-and-whistles, Urbanweeds is a serious plant store, with healthy foliage and well-tended succulents. Their online store is well worth a gander, too.

This looks like a great shop -- one that I'd love to have in San Francisco.

One thing though, it would be nice -- now that you guys are covering much more than just the San Francisco area -- to have a shop's location listed above the jump rather than after. It's kind of a pain to click through and find that a cool place like this isn't accessible because of location. I'd rather just skip over those.

Just a thought!
