apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Sweepa Rubber Broom

10:30 Sweepa 1.jpgThis picture does not exaggerate. The advertising for this product seems to revolve around pet hair, but that doesn't begin to describe how much of a miracle-worker the rubber squeegee-cum-brush has turned out to be for us.

Our apartment has hardwood floors with area rugs. It's too small to store a proper upright vacuum cleaner, but the rugs are too big and heavy to make shaking them out practical on a regular basis.

10:30 Sweepa 2.jpg We do have an animal that sheds, and we had lately resorted to getting on hands and knees to manually scoop and pick the visible dirt from the rugs. Not at all fun or effective, really.

Enter the Sweepa. It's a rubber brush, bristles and all, with a squeegee blade on one side. This thing picks up hair. It picks up dirt. It sweeps water. And rinses clean after all that.

And you can get one at Amazon for a whopping 5 bucks.

That looks almost too good to be true...!

I have something similar to this that I picked up at Bed, Bath, and Beyond for cat hair. It's not good on some fabrics, though (like the ones on which the cats sit). I don't think I have the name brand version, but the thing I do have looks exactly like this. Maybe I need to try it on other kinds of surfaces ...

Does this work for those hairs that wiggle there way into fabric? That is the biggest problem I have with my cat's hair. It comes with us everywhere.

"squeegee-cum-brush" ?!?!?!?

Actually, they sell these same brushes (or very, very similar) to brush the CAT itself. Some cats love 'em, others--not so much. But if your cat likes to be brushed, you should use one of these things. It picks up tons of loose hair while it's still on the animal--before the damned stuff can get on your furniture.

I have a broom version of this, and have had it for years. Works well on my hardwood floors - never tried to use it on the furniture.

I bought the Pet Magnet featured here awhile back and that works wonders on my woven fabric arm chair!! It picks up hair I can't even SEE! Signe, you should try that.

Yep, I have a constantly shedding dog who hates to be brushed, so I can't do anything but clean up after her. The Sweepa is the best I've found so far.

I have one of these and I (stupidly I admit) attempted to brush my cat with it. She totally screamed at me and ran away. Then as usual after inflicting unneccesary drama on my cat, I tried the brush out on my own hair to see what she went through - I do not recommend!!! :)

We use the Sweepa as well -- it cleans up the flurries left behind by our two longhaired half-Persians. I highly recommend it.

I think Sweepa works best on pile, where Magnet works on flat weaves. Target sells floor size tape rollers too. Gotta have the full toolbox, don't we?

Sweepa can be found at Linens and Things and maybe Bed, Bath and Beyond. At Amazon the shipping is as much as the product.

I gotta get my hands on one of these...I have a big white hairy dog that loves to shed all over my area rugs. Lets hope it works! The price is great too.

Why not just brush the cat/dog before they start to shed? :) I have 2 dogs and a Furminator Brush. Seriously. Try that sucker out. It does as good/better job than my groomer (And only costs me once!). Best $50 I ever spent; soooo much less hair on my floor now (carpet sweeper does the rest)!!

I also just got a furminator..
it seems really expensive.. but it works really well. i got a months worth of shedding off my cat in 10 minutes. and she likes it!

we had one of these for our Corgie from Bed Bath and Beyond. He sheds like crazy. It didn't seem to work at all, we tried it on the furniture, carpet, blankets, him, and us. Didn't seem to do a thing, so we took it back.

I don't have a pet, but I shed a lot! Does this work on long human hair?

This is my miracle brush!!! Not only does it completely rid a rug of fur, but it fluffs up the pile and gets out deep dirt so that the rug is completely rejuvenated. I gave all my area rugs a very thorough brushing last Sunday and now they look like they're BRAND NEW. Seriously! I love it.

Oh and it's deeply, deeply satisfying and fun to use!
