The Sleepless in Seattle Houseboat is Up for Sale

For those of you whose introduction to Seattle and our houseboats came via the eponymous Tom Hanks film, here's one for you. The houseboat is on the market — for a cool $2.5 million.

Surprisingly (or perhaps not; it's been a while since we've seen the film), the current design isn't really to our taste. But we're sure someone could do something awesome with 4 bedrooms and 1.75 baths on a 2720 square foot log float (the marine equivalent of lot size) — not to mention a crazy view.

Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily, life on a Lake Union houseboat is but a dream...

The best thing about that movie.

When I was a teenager, we had a family friend who lived on a tiny adorable houseboat on Lake Union (in Fremont), and she frequently asked me to come spend weekends there babysitting her house-rabbit, Theo. It was delightfully eccentric, though it was strange to fall asleep to the house gently bobbing in the water.

I always thought it was a set - never occurred to me it was REAL. I'd buy it in a minute - just right for Sydney Harbour.

It was so yummy, and her house was so awful & tacky, I couldn't imagine them as a couple. The only worse set of homes & couples was When Harry Met Sally. Mismatched decorating must be the subtext of Rob Reiner movies. (Someone do a PhD thesis - quick)

Also loved the soundtrack.

I never realized that was a boat! Or house boat. I thought it was just... a house. What a nice view.

what does 1.75 bathrooms mean?

LegsBattaglia: .75 or 3/4 bath includes a sink, commode, and stall shower, where a full bath has a tub or tub/shower combo.

Deb of Oz - You are so right! I think Reiner summed it up with the wagon wheel coffee table rant.
