Contemporary Pacific Northwest

Colors Used: The light grayish blue paint is Yolo Colorhouse's Water 02 (zero VOC). The wallpaper is Twenty2's grasscloth in neptune. Bright orange wall color is Safecoat's Autumn Flame.
Color Tip: Play around with complementary colors in a room to crate a dynamic combination. Be sure to add a neutral color to the mix to create a balanced look.

TWO thumbs up.

Great use of eye-popping color without making one's head hurt. The art of restraint is at home here.

Thoughtful application of of wood in an elegant and streamlined design. This is the way to blend aesthetics and function.

Mod Walls (http://www.modwalls.com/) sells dot ceramic tile pieces. Not sure if these are they.

Best room by far. In my book you're the winner. It's beautiful and inspiring. Your cabinets are gorgeous. I love color as an accent, not stage center. I'm planning on redoing my kitchen in the future, so I have hope. :)

I feel like this was posted to this blog already...but not in the color contest.

This is a pretty room, but not a colorful one. I think the point of this contest is to show rooms where color IS "stage center." But that's just my own reading of the rules as stated by AT, and my own color-saturated prejudices seeping in.

The backsplash is Stardust Glass, a Portland company. It's my favorite part of the kitchen.

You pegged Contemporary PNW perfectly. I have Water 02 on the walls in my dining and living rooms with orange and brown accents. And I live in Portland--let's hope our houses never meet--they would be embarrassed to be wearing the same thing!

Very much on point for current colour trends and design styles. Wonder how well it will age?

This is my neighbor's awesome kitchen, so I was lucky enough to see the "before" and "after", and the transformation is incredible. I love this kitchen and think Cathy has amazing taste!

Thanks for all the positive comments! For those who would like to read about the earth-friendly materials I used in my kitchen, you can check out my blog post here:

I also have "before" pictures on there.

Oh, Cathy, I love it ! Simple, sleek, elegant, sigh... I saved your pictures for my kitchen remodel - you gave me an idea for my biggest "problem corner", thank you.

Sorry to say this, but this is one of the most commonplace rooms I've ever seen here. Cabinets like everywhere else, dull colours like everywhere else, absence of colours like everywhere else. Only some funny dots on the wall. What is it that made this get more votes than its "opponent" in the first round? Could it be that it awakes "maternal feelings", being so old-fashioned and plain? I read the comments twice and I can't get it, almost nobody mentions anything specific (apart from, yes, the dots).

this kitchen is my cup of tea! so inviting to work in and it pops out from the dark cabinets... love, love this! my kitchen has a slight semblance to this, only that i used dark, uneven shaped stones as back drop...

I agree with TUPELOEID, this kitchen while certainly nice and shiny new- fails to inspire me only in so much as its looks are pretty standard as far as kitchens go these days. I don't see anything unexpected here, nothing daring and bold, no real departure from the rest of the sheep. Was hoping for more... since it looks as if you're moving ahead in the competition. Best of luck.

2 thumbs up. That looks like the perfect shade of watery blue green on the walls. Ideal for a cloudy Oregon day. What color is that?
