thumbs up

Name: Sherry

Type of Home: Single Family Home

Color Inspiration: I love bold colors and also believe that colors have a very real effect on our emotions and activity. I've heard that Orange and Red stimulate the appetite and therefore, are good choices for kitchen and dining rooms. Whether...

Warm Orange

Color Inspiration continued:... that statement is true or not, I do love orange and use it throughout my house. It seems to go very well with my mid-century style and taste.

Colors Used: Ceiling: Benjamin Moore HC-102 Clarksville Gray in High Gloss
Picture Rail: Miller Paint Modern Masters Metallic Gold
Wainscot: Benjamin Moore HC-69 Whitall Brown in Satin
Walls: Benjamin Moore 2155-10 Desert Sunset in Flat

Color Tip:Don't be afraid to be bold! Going with what you love is what will make your space unique. However, it's always good to get a second opinion (especially from someone who will be sharing your living space.) Start with one piece for inspiration--it could be a fabric, artwork, a chair, etc. and choose colors/tones directly from it or colors that compliment it to fill your room.

WOW - I love the orange but is that the natural wood color of the wainscoting? If you painted it gray - i think the color combo looks a little too industrial. Other than that - love it!

Really well done! That orange with the wainscoting color look beautiful together. Everything looks beautiful furniture included.

I'm a big fan of orange! I wish we could have seen a different angle to view the table top more clearly. It looks interesting.

I'm a huge fan of mixing warm oranges with grays and browns, but the overall effect is a little muted for me (I am the opposite of subtle when it comes to color...)

I don't think the strange grey-brown colour of the panelling works with the orange or the wood of the table. I actually think it looks like an undercoat rather than a finished colour. But I do really like that shade of orange.

Wow. I really like the first impression of this, like a big bottle of Veuve Clicquot. It definitely reads as though the homeowner has created a space to love.

If I were to recreate this, I'd probably play with the values a bit (I have a feeling I'd like the grey to be darker than the orange, or the orange to be lighter than the grey).

Beautiful! Just enough orange and just the right shade of it. I like how that cool grey works with it. The color scheme takes the traditional elements of the architecture in a more modern direction, so the furniture fits right in.

OOOOOOOooooh, I like this. Nice drama, and yet makes the room feel more intimate.

Great room. I like how the window and buffet are inset, it seems to give us different ways to see the two colors. The metallic picture rail is a nice touch too. On the dining table, is that inlay, or painted? Could we get another picture of the table top?

This reminds me of the house on my parents' street with my favorite exterior paint job. The house is this putty/gray color and the door pops with orange. It's an incredible combination. I like it here too!

The orange is a perfect compliment to the light from the windows. Well done!

Those are my dining room chairs too. They were a Craigslist purchase. I feel as though I paid too much for them. Can anyone please tell me anything about them? Recently, one broke and I don't know whether or not to spend the money to have it fixed.

Thank you all for the wonderful comments and useful critique. I'll upload a link to more pictures soon since some have requested it.
The table and chairs are classic danish design. They belonged to my parents who handed them down to me when they decided to remodel their dining room. Now, I think my mom feels a bit of regret about giving away the table because it is unique and practical (the center are handmade tiles that work well as a big hotplate!). The colors of the room don't read so well from my camera, so I'll try to find a good time of day to shoot more shots of the details. My favorite elements are the metallic gold picture rail and period style chandelier. I would have loved to have had the ability to add an area rug under the table to fill out the space and add some more character, but with two babies at home, constantly dropping and throwing food on the floor, that's just not possible :-)
This is a hundred year old house that my husband and I just moved to. It was pretty much a total remodel and is a mix of period style and mid-century influences, including some stunning artwork by op art master, Vasarely. The rooms have lots of fun colors and metallic accents that really pop! I'd love to do a house tour on Apartment Therapy sometime if there is any interest. Cheers!

One quarter of the walls are orange...that's it. I thought this was a color contest. No wall art of color, curtains, rugs, placements...
