Don't forget that you can make cake stands with candle sticks or glasses and a plate balanced on top. You can do with hot glue or more temporary means to make storage easier.

I do love cake stands though.

Does anyone have any good storage ideas for them though? They are rather a difficult one.

Does anyone buy cake stands without covers to use as ... cake stands? I can't see ever using one (unless it's to display something other than a cake).

You can use the ones without covers for cakes - it's just a temporary serving things though. You can put a cake with cardboard under it on the coverless stands to that you can remove it and cover leftovers for storage.

cake stands aren't just for cakes though - cookies, other desserts, appetizers, adding height to a buffet.... all sorts of uses. pizza. One I have even gets used for mail occasionally to mix up the spot that my husbands mail lands on when he is out of town.

i love vintage cake stands and use my favorite one in my bedroom as a perfume stand. i also use them as plant stands around the house. they work well to elevate a centerpeice either on a dining table or in the entry way. basically, if you love them, you will find a way to use them!

I keep my cake stand on my vanity when it's not in use. They also make great lifts for appetizers or candles at a party.

The cake stands in the first photo that look like they have droplets coming off them...gross me out for some reason.

I just bought a beautiful red one at Target - it was in their holiday dishes section. It looks vintage, but the price was great. Also, I've found a white one in their Thanksgiving dishes.

Forgot to say I was given a clear glass one (one of those that turns into a punch bowl) for a wedding present and I just use the cover from that one for my others. And I store them on the fridge.

I always serve appetizers on mine at a party.

to astur...i think cake stands (at least ones as pretty as these) should be stored in plain view. you can put anything on them...perfume in the bathroom, your oils or vinegars in the kitchen, etc. etc. i use one by the front door to leave my keys on!

It's a discount outlet, importer for kitchenware (including ceramics) for big stores, place like Macy's & Bloomingdale's. For about $40 you can get 3 cakeplates, in graduated tiers in ivory, I bought two oversized heavy white ones there for just $12 each. Colored ones available on occasion but I didn't pay much attention since I tend to go for white ceramics.

I served blue cheese on mine this weekend. I agree, the main pic grosses me out.

@Astur: For storing, I stack mine, in twos -- I have half a dozen (and counting)! They live on top of the kitchen cabinets, along w/my vintage vases.
