Roundup: Black and White Rugs

When we saw the black and white rug in Rhiannon and Victor's First "Grown-Up" Home, we decided, "That's it, we're putting together a black-and-white-rug roundup"...

They're something we're seeing increasingly, and we're taking note. Some reasons why we like black and white rugs: the bold and graphic nature they introduce to a room, their generally strong patterns, and the way the black and white - no matter how strong the patterning - act as neutral and play off of whatever else is going on in the room (see image 4).

Rhiannon and Victor's rug (first image) is from Urban Outfitters. We don't see it there now, but their Tribal Macrame Trim Rug is another black and white option.

Others we've included here:
2 West Elm's Zig Zag Rug in ivory, iron, and Fez red
3 image by Roger Davies
4 Funky Zebra by Diane Von Furstenberg at The Rug Company
5 black and white cotton dhurrie rug from Wisteria (we really like this one)

One more must-mention is IKEA's Stockholm Rand rug. Have you spotted any other black and white rugs lately that you'd like to add to the list? Please comment below!

One of my favorite B&W rugs is the IKEA Jorun (wool):

It's not very big but I keep thinking that I could hand sew a bunch of them together to make a bigger rug.

It reminds me of this ashtray designed by Stig Lindberg (Sweden):

is that really the IKEA Rand carpet? It looks like it's got chevronpattern in that pic. In any case- very pretty!

Petra - you're right - that's not the Ikea Rand rug in the second photo. Thanks for pointing that out. I've corrected it in the post.

I love the look of black & white rugs, but they're a cleaning nightmare. I speak from experience. The white shows dirt at the drop of a hat, but the black is even worse. You have no idea how much light-colored lint is floating around your home 'till you get a rug with significant areas of black in it. Oh. My. God.

I love the combination of balck and white.
My favourite balck & white rugs are from Gcrugs.com.

Black & White Safari Rug:

Black & white Manitoba striped rug:

And you can find lot of other eco-friendly rugs too..

Smarty, I like Zebra prints too. I actually have one in my office and the black and white works with everything in the room. however, I bought mine from Rugs Usa at less than half the price of a the rug on gcrugs website. here is the link
