Roundup: Disposable-Inspired Tableware

Aside from convenience, there's not much to love about disposable products. We all know that they create a lot of waste and zap resources... but is there anything to take from their design? Some seem to think so, as iconic shapes like the plastic red cup, paper plate, water bottle and more are popping up all over in reusable, dishwasher-friendly reinterpretations.

  2. and ice creams cones, from SIN by Virginia Sin, made from a paper/clay mixture. The paper burns off in the kiln, leaving an extra light finished piece.

  4. To Go Cup from Urban Outfitters for $20

  5. Glass Beverage Bottles from Crate & Barrel for $8.95-16.95

#4 is a "I'm not a paper cup". It's not from Urban Outfitters. I found mine at the local whole foods, and have seen them at other stores as well. It's great for keeping drinks insulated, though I found it can be a little leaky. It wasn't the best travel cup, but I use it constantly for keeping coffee warm when I work at home.

The best part of an ice cream cone is eating that last bit of melted ice cream with the cone! The others are great, but I can't endorse #2.

I did, by the way, actually write "I'm not a paper cup!" on my cup, after my organist once tried to throw it away while cleaning up after coffee hour. He thought it was just half full of coffee. Thankfully, a gentleman effected a rescue before it hit the dumpster!

I bought the milk holder from UO (#3) but when I unwrapped it I was less impressed; it's not as delicate glass as you would think, and I was horrified that I paid $14 for something like that that was made in China. Off it went to be returned.
