Roundup: Globes in Homes

1-23-09 globe collection.jpgRegardless of trends, there will always be a place in our home for a globe (or two or ten). Not only are they aesthetically pleasing, they're also good to have around for reference... or just to get a little perspective on things. Here we've compiled some of our favorite set-ups of globes in homes, including a few creative uses for them.

You don't have to go whole hog with a collection of them, one globe makes a nice statement, too. From Christy and John's Logan Square Bungalow

1-23-09 globe lamp.jpgA bit of a variation on the ol' light up globe. You could also cut it in half for a shade (though you'd be sacrificing its orginal purpose). From Adrienne's House Tour

1-23-09 globe ceiling.jpgSome comments from this original post pointed out the eyeball creep-factor of this set-up. Maybe attach the globes from their side to tone that aspect down?

You can never go wrong with a globe!

...okay, maybe the last picture, but apart from that.

We at Mortise & Tenon and Yourfurniturelink love this idea! Display your collectables! There should be no reason that your ceramic kitty collection should be hidden in a box under your bed! Bring it out into the open! Show off your (lets face it!) COOL STUFF!

Thank you for letting me post a comment!

Can anyone tell me what color/brand paint that is in the first photo--I love it.

Globes rule. I have a serious addiction to them.

Help.

That last picture is... disconcerting.

I want more globes. I have one, and it'd look PERFECT with just a few more... (Particularly if they're vintage. If it doesn't have the USSR, I'm not interested ^_~)

RE: Last photo - why only look at the pole? Suspending each globe to show a different locale would be more visually interesting and mentally stimulating.

I finally brought to my new coop the one I'd grown up with (like the top-most right one in the first photo). It used to be on its tall stand, but I put it on the small base alone, then dispensed with the base all together and it's happily lolling in the corner of my room now.

I may be showing my true furniture design novice feathers, but that desk in the first photo -- where can I find it (i.e., who makes it/designed it/sells it...)?

Also, too, the last photo scares me.

Okay, I think I've figured out that the desk is Paul McCobb. Now where can I find one in the bay area?
