The bedroom is a sanctuary - a place where you can escape the noise of life (minus your alarm clock, unfortunately) and focus on your own relaxation in peace. You don't want anything in there that will detract from that sense of calm or distract you from getting a good night of sleep. That being said, it doesn't have to be a beige-on-beige bore-fest, either...
These bedrooms from our San Francisco House Tours keep things simple with soothing colors and minimal accoutrements, but the results are never ever boring. By adding small doses of color or pattern, be it in a single painted wall or pile of throw pillows, the rooms maintain a sense of the individual without being distracting in the least. We'd be happy to curl up in any one of them.

These are great; thanks for the roundup. I especially like the colors and textures in Rebecca and Roger's bedroom. Our own bedroom is cool grey with bits of brown and red, so I definitely appreciate these examples of simplicity with a bit of a twist:

Very nice.
I like Frances' room, looks very relaxing except for the wall unit beside the bed, I would have to place the bed somewhere else.
And Monika's is also very nice but I think the art work above the bed would serve to keep me awake.
Thanks for sharing!

Is the headboard (in Rebecca and Roger's place) a stencil or decal? It's great!

I love the headboard stencil/decal (?) in Rebecca & Roger's place as well. I did something similar with wall paper one time.....but I really like the simple look of this design.
