Roundup: Tall, Skinny Table Lamps

The side tables that flank our living room couch aren't exactly the right scale; they're too short, topping off a good six inches below the sofa arm. But seeing as there's a recession on, new side tables aren't exactly in the cards. New lamps, however, are a necessary purchase for the room, which is too dim at night for reading. So we figured we'd kill two birds with one stone and choose tall, narrow table lamps to balance out the stubby side tables. Here some favorites from our search...

These lamps range from mod to rustic, from conservative to romantic, from cheap to pricey, but none of them is more than a foot and a half wide, including the shade, and most are from 25" to 36" tall.

3 Half and Half Lamp, $29.99 from Urban Outfitters (shade sold separately).

4 Lujsas Salbo Table Lamp, $39.99 from Ikea.

5 Lights Up! Nikki Tall Table Lamp, $210 from Design Public.

There are so many more interesting vintage lamps out there for far less money on eBay and at the flea markets.

All these lamps are gorgeous. I like the Cancan and Chealsea prints alot and its best feature is that they are adjustable too according to your needs ..

Some of these are beautiful, I especially like the ginkgo one. I can't help but feel, however, that mentioning the recession and then posting links to lamps the majority of which are between one and nearly four hundred dollars is a tad disingenuous. As bepsf says, why not look for true bargains by going vintage instead of pushing the idea that a $300 lamp is somehow recession-friendly?

Go to your salvation army/goodwill/etc and buy a table lamp -- then refinish it yourself. That's what I did, and it's working out great. I will never, ever drop 400$ on a lamp. Are you kidding?

Laura - AGREED! I won't spend over $50 for a lamp - and then it would have to be spectacular.

Target and Ikea have lamps very similar to most of these listed. I bought one at Target almost identical (different shade) for $19.99!!!!!!!!!! Hello! People aren't spending $100 on STUPID LAMPS.
sorry.

I agree with plumeria, I got telescoping ones similar to the PB ones on the first row from Target..and it is available in three finishes...for $20 or $30 I think. My mom loved it so much she got one as well. Best part is that since it telescopes, I can use it almost anywhere when I redecorate.

I have 2 of those Ada lamps flanking my couch and I love them. But I got the PAIR at Crate and Barrel Outlet for only $60 instead of $60 for one. Thrifty is definitely the way to go.

I wish people would stop assuming that all vintage and thrift stores all stock amazing, cheap goods. The ones near me happen to be filled with mid-'80s-style overgrown dusty rose and teal china monstrosities or old IKEA and Target. People on eBay also tend to overcharge for decent vintage lamps. It's not that easy to find something vintage that fits your decor and budget without spending a significant amount of time looking. If you need a lamp and don't want to spend weeks or months (or even years) looking for the perfect one, some of these are good suggestions.
