Koko's Pop Plastic Floormats

6-27-08-koko-mats.jpg
Just because a mat is destined for outdoor use doesn't mean that it has to be bland and trashy. And conversely, just because something is made of plastic doesn't mean it has to be garish. Koko's Pop line of plastic floormats perfectly finds this balance.

The 4x6 mats are woven in a brown, Asian-inspired pattern with contrast in three colorways: lime, grey and blue. And the price is surprisingly competitive, considering the company it keeps at 2modern: $46, here.

I don't know. These fit my definition of garish.

I had these outside at my house in LA and they crusted and burned and turned practically into ash -- don't use if you plan to keep them in the sun.

They do have quite a selection there:

What else can we find? A more traditional approach, like a Persian style? Or a blue and white one?
A 4'x6' for $39 and two 5'x8's for $80:

A bit better prices on this eBay shop:

Good prices here, these are reversible:

Check out this rug too, it's made from t-shirt scraps:

Pricey, though, $360 for the 5'x7' size. But it won't mat like a flokati often does.

Now is when I start losing track of who had what at what price:

And if you want to be serious about it, you make your own "plarn" (plastic yarn) out of plastic bags and crochet your own rug (no kidding):

Now THAT is pretty darned amazing!

Koko's entire collection, including these mats, are available through Mermaid Hut. Koko actually has some really great throw pillows that aren't as garish as the mats.
