We don't find much appealing about those standard black and white cowhide rugs. Something about walking on it when it still so closely resembles the animal it came from gives us the creeps. And while we know these cowhide rugs are essentially the same thing, they're infinitely more attractive.

One of these days I will stop moving thousands of miles every two years and live somewhere where I feel like I can actually invest in furnishings that I am going to keep for a long time, and this is certainly on the list.

Hides give me the creeps too, but as long as Im eating meat-It's hard to complain. At least all parts of the carcass are being utilized.

I can walk on a cow hide as long as it doesn't remind me so much of the cow. design-justified

nothing like a little floor fashion to bring out the self-righteous. I'll make sure I craft protest placards made out of organic tofu skins.

I sincerely have no opinions about these and my previous comments have only to do with the hypocritical framing of this post by the blogger. I think if you're going to be disgusted by something, be disgusted. Otherwise, just say you rather like the zigzags and stripes and leave your patent squeamish reactions to hide aside. In other words, get off the fence and make a political preference in favor or against dead animals, and adhere to that. At least I would say, a cow-looking splotchy brown hide just doesn't go with my decor, but I like when you dye it green and make herringbone patterns. If you're going to be all "dead cows make me cry, it's kind of spongy and reminds me of death too much," don't follow up with an ignorant comment preferring a dead cow skin dyed and arranged tastefully in stripes with a rationale that it's easier to make yourself happy to decorate with dead cows that way.
I don't seem to have any decor made of leather at the moment. I do have some shoes though. I eat meat. I think there's a non-vegetarian "backlash" that is so threatened by potential hypocrisy they have to point it out. If I turned vegan, I would still wear all the leather shoes I already have. Why not? If you think something like this rug isn't hot, you can say so; is it ugly? Do you eat hamburgers? Those answers to the question are not related. Is it ugly because it's ugly or because killing animals for decoration is wrong? Those answers to the question are just not related! Too much simplification and judgment.

Ugg.. for some reason these rugs are way grosser than a standard cowhide. These have a weird Hannibal Lector meets Merret Oppenheim vibe about them.
