Designing Dreams, Engineering Desire
Portland

11-18-08 future.jpgWe've blogged the "Designs on Portland" lecture series before, and we're consistently impressed with the topics they cover. This time, the focus is on design and technology, and the role they play in how we imagine the future.

As the invite says, "What role does design play in the manufacturing of desire, in solving complex global issues, or in animating a more open source relationship with everyday objects?" While it seems like a fairly obscure question, the lineup of speakers promises provide some much-needed clarity.

The event is moderated by architecture blogger Brian Libby, with guests Tim DuRoche of Portland Center Stage (where R. Buckminster Fuller: THE HISTORY (and Mystery) OF THE UNIVERSE is currently playing), Sohrab Vossoughi of ZIBA Design and Daniel H. Wilson, robotics engineer and author of “Where’s My Jetpack? A Guide to the Amazing Science Fiction Future That Never Arrived.”

Doors open at 6 p.m., where you can enjoy wine and refreshments from Pour Wine Bar. The program begins at 6:30.

  • Wednesday, November 19
  • 6-8p
  • DWR Portland Studio
  • 1200 N.W. Everett
