George

georgesign7-5.jpgWe learned long ago that the huge chain pet stores sell the cheap and ugly rather than the aesthetically pleasing and durable. Luckily, there are places like George.

newgeorge7-5.jpgWe aren't the only ones to be put off by mass-produced pet supplies. Fifteen years ago Bobby Wise and Lyndon Lambert found "the range of available pet products madly uninspiring - and actually rather grating to their aesthetic sensibilities." And George was born.

George's bowls, beds, and other accoutrements for your dog and cat are not only well-made, they're hip and sophisticated, with clean lines and great graphics. These are items that you won't be embarrassed to have around the house. If you don't live in the Bay Area, near the two George stores in SF and Berkeley, you can buy their products online.

George sells everything for the modernist pet, from beds to dishes to quilts to toys, and beyond.

Beds range from $40 to $240, bowls from $19.50 to $42. Vinyl feeding mats are $7.50.

Now you can donate those ugly beds, blankets, bowls, and toys to your local animal shelter, where they'll appreciate them no matter their aesthetic value.

Nice - My cat just had 4 kittens 2 days ago, so I'll be in need of some new goodies :)

George is the best! My pooch Miles and I often visit the Berkeley location. The staff is super friendly and Miles is given treats everytime! But the best part is that he looks like a rockstar in his George collars and sleeps like an angel in his George bed. We love George!

My daughter Zoe's husband is called George, so that's a good start.
