Holy Cow that Papa Bear chair is great, but 5 THOUSAND bucks is, um, just a bit over my head. Thanks for the eye candy, though!

5k for a papa bear chair is about what you would pay in a high end auction on the west coast. LA Modern had 3 for sale this past season one fro 4500 the other for 5000 and a final one with the ottoman for 5500.

Funny, I just searched the Portland CL for "wegner" and came up with two posts:

I hope the $19K is a typo.

Somehow I don't think that Papa Bear Chair is gonna sell for $5000 - Not this year...
...especially when you can walk into Modernica and get a brand new one for around half that.

The washington listing with green upholstery is a little suspect. There is a divot detail in the original that is missing on the paw.

Haha I just saw that chair on CL ... but unfortunately 5K is above my budget. I'd love to do Scavenger posts ... I'm a CL hound!

vintage papa bears sell for about $3800 and up on ebay (plus shipping), $5000 and up at auction (plus tax and commission for an additional 20-30%), and $7500 and up via dealers (plus tax). add another $800 to $2000 if it includes an ottoman.
the modernica version is $2800-3500 based on fabric choice and wood (plus tax) and a new scandinavian manufactured chair will set you back an astonishing $15000 (plus tax).
the modernica version has not been tested with regard to resale or collectivity and is thus not to be viewed as an investment piece. a new one from scandinavia will lose value to vintage price level.
true danish manufactured chairs have actually increased in value over the last 10 years......though whether that will hold is anyone's guess, especially in this economy.
best bet if you love this chair is to find a vintage one for a modernica price. it took me 5 years to do so (but mine came with an ottoman that was essential free at the price i paid). happy hunting.
