Oakland based artist Billy Kroft creates amazing furniture and decorative accessories out of reclaimed wood from the many aged family estates of Sonoma County. Each piece is one of a kind and carries an old soul, reflective in the peeling paint and weather-worn patina of the wood...
With the wide array of big box stores offering furniture at low, low prices it can sometimes be a challenge between conscience and wallet to support local artisans and craftspeople. But a flea market find here, a hand-me-down there, and a piece or two from someone like Kroft can instantly add depth to a home that couldn't be recreated by all the [insert big brand name here] stores in the world.

While i'm all about local craftsman, I don't understand why I would pay a lot of money to buy an old wood bench with peeling paint. You could probably find something exactly like, for free, at a junkyard.

I have a real soul boner for reclaimed wood and salvage-based furniture, but I'm guessing Kroft's line is expensive... which is why I'm trying to learn how to make this stuff for myself. It won't be as elegantly executed or well constructed, but it'll be affordable (and all mine!).
