The company aims for creating "communal seating" while still allowing one to choose if they want to interact with others or sit alone, depending on which way they orient themselves. They also go so far as to say it can "help people feel more sociable and less isolated in the big City". Well, that's a nice thing to strive for. Do you think the design pulls it off?
