Union Bench by i do Design

4-17-08 bench.jpg From far away we thought this was an hors d'oeuvres bowl... not quite. Scandinavian company i do Design has created a bench for indoor or outdoor use that allows "360 degrees of vista enjoyment." Sounds good for outside; sounds great for cocktail parties.

The indoor version is made of glass reinforced plastic with leather cushions, while the outdoor bench is concrete with wood seating.

4-17-08 bench2.jpg The company aims for creating "communal seating" while still allowing one to choose if they want to interact with others or sit alone, depending on which way they orient themselves. They also go so far as to say it can "help people feel more sociable and less isolated in the big City". Well, that's a nice thing to strive for. Do you think the design pulls it off?

I really like this, though I can't real.y see it in someone's home. The outdoor bench is great and I can see the indoor version in a gallery or museum, just not in a home.
