Mikado Chair

2006_06_22_mikado.jpgThis chair brings together many great moments from the history of furniture design: the Windsor chair, Shaker and Nakashima takes on it, and Paul McCobb's mid-century reduction to bare essentials (note the lack of a horizontal stabilizing comb or stretchers between the legs).

As Hightower (the Bellingham, WA, showroom that sells it) states, it has a "peacock effect, a bit like Mikado sticks just before they fall to the ground." (Hence the name.)

This peacock will run you $595 apiece in laquered beech. Available from Hightower.
