SF Good Questions: Is the Panton Junior Big Enough for Adult Use?

2-28-panton1.jpg

AT:SF, Is the Panton Junior big enough for adult use? I am looking for a chair to make up a modern little reading corner in my studio and am leaning towards the Panton Chair. DWR has the Junior listed at almost half the price of the original version.

I am torn over which one to go with. The junior is said to be 25% smaller than the larger version and I am afraid of paying $100 more for a slightly larger chair. Especially since eventually I would like to buy 3 more to use all 4 as dining chairs.

Does anyone have the Junior and use it for adults? Has the size made a significant difference?

Eleazar,

These two photos are from a window display at a children's store we saw recently. We think they give you a little better perspective regarding size...They're definitely kid-sized.

We recently purchased 6 of the adult size (and on Craig's List - look there before shelling it out!) and while amazing, even the adults feel a little short with our dining table. The seat height is just 16". We sat in the child's version and our knees were parallel with our chins....

I agree with renee. I just bought the adult size for my 8 year old, and her feet almost touch the ground when she's seated (she's about 4'6). I would think the junior size would definitely be too small for you.

Well, this makes more sense. I saw the Panton for sale locally for $140 and figured that it was the Junior because it was so much cheaper than what I saw on the DWR website.

Now I understand that the Junior really is a childs chair. Good to know, I will go ahead and purchase the "adult version" tomorrow :)

I apologize for this question being so ignorant. Until recently I had never seen the Panton Chair and I am so cheap I navigated to the lower price! Considering I am 6'1", I should have known not to consider the Junior.

In the back of the February Domino magazine they have a coupon for 2 for the price of 1 pantone chairs (adult sized!) at moderndose.com.. plus free shipping. You are supposed to put "domino" in as the coupon code at the checkout. I imagine the offer is only good in February but I'm not sure.

I think the moderndose.com chairs were reproductions of the Pantone chair -- if you look closely at their pics, theirs has a supporting strut under the base of the seat that the Vitra Pantone chairs don't.

panton... sorry! I think you're right Caroline... very tricky wording on the moderndose site.

I think Moderndose is still running the 2 for 1 special. I bought 2 sets and love them. While the shipping is free, it's sketchy! I never received any shipping info. and my chairs were suddenly at the door 3-4 weeks later.

Ah, if I a Paton Junior chair as a kid I would be a very different person.
Eleazar, no need to feel stupid - your question gave me the opportunity to enjoy those cute knit dolls in the chairs.

The Panton Junior is way too small for an adult! Just to give you an idea, our 16 month old fits in it perfectly (with a little room to spare).

Eleazar, I was actually glad for the opportunity to post those windows -- thanks for the excuse! (I couldn't have otherwise since they're so Ohdeedoh-ish.)
