Hi AT:SF, I found a chair in the street, VERY similar to those in this photo, and am wondering where I can get help replacing the bent plywood piece that connects the seat to the chair back...

...The legs are very structurally sound but the back piece is about to split/can not withstand any pressure/anyone sitting on it. I'm in SF, and any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Anyone?
(Belated thought: Morgan, you might try Chris Howard. Not only does he have his own restoration company, which we blogged here, he's now doing restoration for Klassik by Lynne.)

Unless you can find out who manufactured it and if they're still in business - you're not going to find spare parts, and the cost to have something custom-fabricated would be more than it's worth.
(Which is probably why you found it on the street...)

Pretty sure those chairs were manufactured by Thonet, but are no longer produced.
If possible, take the chair apart and re-glue the broken/split pieces with some quality wood glue and some good clamps. Make sure to wipe away any excess glue before it dries.
