Knit Chair by Pirwi

2-5-pirwi.jpg

This chair is expensive. For the money, sure, there are a few other things that we might go for first (a significant portion of the down payment on a home, say). But now that we've gotten that out of the way, we can move on to what we like about it.

The chair is made from plywood disks, knitted together with cotton rope. This results in a flexible chair that moulds to the sitter's body, while still firmly supporting it. It's scoopy shape and the soft connections between the pieces of plywood -- not one monolithic piece -- adds to its unassuming good looks.

Though for $5,245, perhaps we wouldn't mind if the chair assumed something. Or did the laundry maybe.

Check it out here.

When I read that $5,245 is "a significant portion of the down payment on a home" I had to check my browser and make sure I hadn't accidentally clicked over to "AT: Boise". Seriously? Five grand down payment? In the SF area?
That said, I agree with the general gist of the statement that 5k is too much to spend on any chair, especially that chair.

I love this site. Don't take my sibling-like ribbing too hard ;).

I reminds me of that awful leather clothing (skirts, vests and hats, usually) from the 70's.

For that price I'm going to expect a happy ending to my seating experience...
