Does anything scream 80's more than lipstick-red leather? It's a fabric that will forever be associated with the Michael Jackson "Beat It" jacket for us, but for some it might call to mind this sofa, a modern classic of a design, currently being rereleased.
For us, this would never fly in our house. We favor a mix of styles, whereas the Softy most likely needs an uber-modern space to work. And maybe it's because it's still rather fresh in our memories or that the style of the decade just isnt our cup of tea (maybe both), but we haven't been able to embrace the return of the 80's, be it in fashion or interior design. Perhaps we'll have to work on it, or maybe it will be a passing phase. Are you happy for the return, or could you do without the 80's redux? Does the Softy call to you or do you see Craigslist castoff written all over it?
including this sofa with disparaging references to the 80s is unfair. it's a nice enough looking sofa and the color itself is bold and attractive.

Frankly, I'm getting tired of revivals in general. MCM and 70s decor, followed by 80s decor. Doesn't anyone have a new idea?

no, yes I'm sick of MCM but really the 80's? so pathetic.

I just don't like smooshy leather sofas. This has nothing to do with the 80s, or the colour, but personally I just don't like them at all.

Oh yes, I can see my friends dropping mad Cheetos crumbs in there or, God forbid, spilling something in all those cavernous leather crevices and never being able to clean it all out. YUK. Nice, taught, smooth leather is where it's at. At least if you want to do any kind of entertaining.

I like this sofa - and I love Red leather.
Now if this sofa was in Peach, Mauve or Ivory leather - I could see the 80's reference...
...but in Red - it's Classic.

No.
It (kind of) works in the room pictured, but I can think of so many other pieces I would like there instead, and it's too close to those puffy, smushy, 80s examples of hideousness that I. could. never.
No.

I'm with you Lisa Hunter (Montreal). Enough with the revivals. I posted the same thing over in the Werstler thread. Where are all the new ideas? As horrid as the 70s were, a least they were original. I don't think design or decorating has had an original idea since Miami Vice. Please prove me wrong.
BTW, did anybody notice that that sofa costs $12,500.00, excluding delivery? Am I blogging with people who can afford to pay that for furniture? Heck, I should put on a tie...

It works in the picture above, but seriously how many of us live like that (I wish!)?? Regardless of which era it originates, I cannot live with a lumpy sofa. Lumpy sofas remind me of lumps of fat and I don't want to be reminded of lumps of fat..give me the taut buttercream lambskin leather any day...

If you (somehow?) love it, but balk at the price point, here's a much cheaper facsimile (in red!) from Leon's.
