Based in San Francisco (cheers for local designers!) with the design studio in Potrero Hill, the company also has showrooms across the country. It was the LEX chair (at top) which originally piqued our interest, but we're loving these comfortable yet stylish-looking sofas as well... and each piece is available in an array of wood finishes and fabrics, of course, so no hating on the yellow. We'll go ahead and add these find to our "A Girl Can Dream, Can't She?" file.
Available through De Sousa Hughes in the city or online through Decorati.
Yikes. Love the color of that mustard yellow chair; not so crazy about the modern wings. Anyone? Anyone?

The arms of that chair make it look like C3PO. I do however love those sofas!

Looks like it's missing the atomic bullet hair drier dome above it.

Appears these are inspired by Hans Wegner's poppa chair.

It reminds me of a dentist's chair, so I'm with you on the drool-worthy.

Yeah, the dentist chair kind of freaks me out, so I hate the first one. But I LOVE that second sofa! I want!

If a T-Rex was a chair it would look like this.

I am very familiar with the Ted Boerner line. There are better pieces in the line. Be sure to click through to his website and look at his casegoods, beds and the Ursula upholstery collection. The Lex chair is less cartoony when it isn't in intense yellow leather.
PS - Ted is an extremely nice guy who runs an ethical and friendly company.

the showroom is two blocks from my home. was luck enough to be walking by one saturday in october when he was having a sample sale. he was beyond nice. the furniture was very well made. i bought a poe sectional that i didn't know i needed. (this from someone who researches and second guesses most purchases). absolutely no buyer's remorse. really recommend both him and his designs.

Uhm, I likes the darkyellow stabby. I am a little bit Wegner crazy though, so maybe that explains it. Or it's just my smashingly good taste. Heh. Maybe.

My lord that chair is fugly. The winged sofa looks interesting but looks more like style over substance/function. The wings do exactly what... And, in most rooms, it will be difficult to incorporate the tall protrusions.

I love the look of the winged sofa. If the yellow chair had softer looking arms, perhaps more rounded and padded...the arms as they are look dangerous.

See.. having arrived at this post after reading about the new Risom chair....I'm annoyed.
People critiqued Risom for reintroducing a previously unknown chair - but here we have a designer who (nice or not) is basically aping features of previous designs - Wegner most notably.
Why thats considered "original" escapes me. Its like the Chevy truck that looks just like a futuristic 40's truck. Neat...but not for much more than the set of Back to the Future IV.
A large part of what made Modern designers great was their willingness to tackle problems of their era. And meet them with new solutions -not throwbacks, not pastiche, not nostalgia. I love some of Boerner's work (I do drool over the DWR Theatre sofa) but I don't think any of these are particularly droolworthy or particularly inspired. :(
