Ny Rocking Chair by Takeshi Nii

Our DWR catalog came in the mail yesterday, and we read the entire page about the Ny Rocking Chair before it dawned on us that this is a folding chair. That rocks. We would never have thought of that —there's a reason modern design is still cutting edge, 50 years later.

The Ny Rocking Chair was designed by Takeshi Nii in 1958, based on the very familiar director's chair. It's part of the permanent collection at MoMa, and is offered at DWR at a relatively reasonable price, considering.

The chair is $450 at DWR, and the matching ottoman. is an extra $175.

Thanks for sharing this. I picked up both the chair and the ottoman in tan leather from a junk shop in London several years back. I didn't know the items had a history; I just loved them. Maybe the tan leather came later, was swapped out for the black canvas?

I paid a little under a hundred pounds for both (if it's of interest) and at the time, it seemed like a fortune!
