8.11.09 setu 2.jpgOver at Otto, a blog about architecture and design, a behind the scenes look at the entire production of Herman Miller's latest chair design, the Setu chair. The Studio 7.5 team, responsible for the design of the new seating, sought to create "a chair that combines work-chair principles of motion and comfort with sleak lines, simplicity, and an affordable price."

According to the Herman Miller website, the Setu has an "innovative kinematic spine bends and flexes to your every move. There's nothing to tilt, nothing to tweak. Setu's finely tuned elastomeric fabric provides superior suspension and conforms to your contours." Check out the article to see exactly what goes into designing a high-tech ergonomic chair---truly "high performance" seating! We liked peeking into the entire process...

This reminds me of a few other modern ergo chairs such as the Steelcase leap, which has a similar flexible spine, and a few others that have no adjustments whatsoever. It certainly looks promising.

Herman Miller isn't a designer. It's a manufacturer.

I'm waiting for the Herman Miller SitonU, the actual human being chair, which, for $895 you can employ an out of work GM car designer or immigrant laborer to follow you around and bend over on hands and knees to give you a comfortable place to sit. For $995 they will even spoon.
