9-5-great jones home logo.jpgWe once inherited a fabulous deco-era chair from our mother, a sidewalk-sale savant. It was beautiful but had no cushions, thereby initiating our first foray into the world of upholstery. Upholstery being a particularly baffling landscape ("no, we only do car interiors"), we consider ourselves lucky to have found Great Jones Home early in our search for a selection of both classic and of-the-moment fabrics to do the chair justice.

While textiles are definitely where this boutique in Seattle's Belltown shines beyond the rest, Great Jones Home is far more than a retail outlet for upholstery fabric. The furniture and accessories throughout their long, narrow space are arranged like a spread in Domino. Each group of pieces many sourced in European flea markets has a bold, large-scale feeling (with equally bold, large-scale price tags, but who's counting?). There are treasures to be found in the lower price echelons as well, such as these beautiful capiz-shell pens.

Another cool thing, Great Jones Home is committed to always having a designer on staff, so the sales assistance goes far beyond looking up prices and bringing things out from the back. Their website is only contact info currently, but they have plans for online sales soon. We'll be waiting.

The only problem with their website is it's only a place holder and when you click on the link, it brings up Outlook for email only.

I think I've seen this place going past when in the Belltown area since I live in Seattle.

This is a really cool shop. Out of my price range at the moment, but I like to stop in for inspiration. Unfortunately there's not a whole lot else going on in that corner of downtown, so it's a little bit of a hike to do in a day of shopping. I think it's in the ride free area (for buses), though.

This is my favorite 'inspiration' store. I can't really afford anything in there ... yet. But it isn't really that far out of the way ... and it is dog friendly! Some of the stuff is really impractical though ... they have these beautiful velvet silver chairs in the window and the salesperson recommended that they only be for show - no actual sitting.
