You can't get much more iconic in Seattle than Pike Place Market. And one of the hallmarks of this iconbesides the fish-throwing guys, of courseis the row of flower stalls running along the market's entire length.
As my cousin from Barbados pointed out on a recent visit, in half a block you'll see five people carrying the big paper-wrapped bunches of flowers with smiles on their faces. One can't help but imagine the loved one or dining table for which the bouquet is destined. Go right before closing at 6 pm to get huge $5 bunches of one kind of flowerI for one prefer to skip the fussy arrangements.
I agree, the flowers at the Market are the best bargain in town. I wish I lived closer to the downtown area to take advantage of the bounty of the PNW - not just the flowers but the amazing fresh produce.

That bouquet showed up on my office neighbor's desk. It was beautiful and fragrant. Everyone asked her who sent flowers - it was that full and rich looking.
If you live or work downtown, try to do at least some of your shopping there. For example, if you have been looking for special ingredients for Mexican recipes, there are two great shops in the market. I buy about half my stuff there. It keeps you out of the supermarket and away from manufactured food things. If your too far away to make regular use of Pike Place, there are great markets all over town. Don't forget to seek them out.

We bought the flowers for our wedding at Pike Place Market - all dahlias of various colors - for $70. If we would have had a florist provide the same, it would have cost 5 times that amount easily. I love that we have so many local flower farmers!
