SF Spring Cure: Week One Check-In

3-14-week-one.jpgHow is everyone getting through week one? Catching up with the flickr group it looks like lots of people bought flowers this week - personally I've been loving the long stemmed yellow tulips I grabbed at the farmer's market last weekend, they're still going strong six days later. Buying fresh flowers every week is one of the easiest and most fun parts of the Cure - if you haven't gotten around to it make a big effort to pick some up this weekend.

We're going to do a final update of Northwest Cure participants on Monday - so if you haven't signed up yet, please do it before then. You can go here to sign up.

I'll admit that I haven't done as much as I'd hoped to by now - I bought flowers, swept, sat in a part of our house I rarely sit in (for me it was the bedroom) and started my repair list. I'm putting our one item out on the curb this afternoon, and finishing the repair list today as well. I already use earth-friendly cleaners, so that's checked off. I really want to mop all of our wood floors with Murphy's Wood Oil Soap, and am hoping that will happen this weekend.

mega.gamma is trying to "wrangle" their stuff - apparently that's a Nelson bench under there.

How are all of you doing with your Week One assignments (you can find the Week One post with assignment here)? Have you been chugging along all week or have you been waiting for the weekend?

Remember when you put photos into the flickr group to add titles and descriptions letting the rest of us know what we're looking at and what kind of advice or feedback you're looking for. Does anyone have a specific challenge going into the weekend? Comment below and link to your flickr pics as needed.

Yes!! I'm still trying to sell stuff on Craigslist!! I need to sell to be able to fund week five.

I plan to lounge in my 3/4 complete living room, make pillows from an old kimono, and hang some art if my picture hanger gizmo finally arrived.

I've been working on this today:

I figured out how to dismantle our current vintage bathroom fixture so that I could clean up the chrome on it. I used Flitz metal polish with some success. The rust is gone, but you can still see a few pocks where the rust had been. I made a call to our local hardware store, Discount Builders, and found that I can buy a replacement chrome flush mount for around $6.

I checked everything off of the to-do list except for sitting in a room a rarely sit in. I use all my rooms, a lot. I guess I could sit in my hallway cause I haven't done that for a while. I used to sit in my hallway often cause that is where the heater is and when I was cold I would cozy up in there with a book or magazine. I think I will just skip that step.

Well, guys, I'm behind here. I ordered the book. I've been looking at my home by candle light almost every night. And I cleaned up a cymbidium orchid that I got for cheap someplace like TJ's or Costco, which came back to bloom its fool head off despite attacks from dogs, rain, and other species. That orchid happens to match the spring green of my pillows, and this makes me very happy. I guess that's enough for now, because that feels pretty good.

I am working on my drawer upholstery project, cleaning and going to read next week's assignment. I bought some great Amy Butler fabric and knobs. My husband is cutting the plywood for the drawer faces.

I did everything on the week one list, and skipped ahead a bit to painting the walls, because as you can see, I have my work cut out for me! http://flickr.com/photos/monstertown/2315679354/ The hardest part of week one was setting a budget that might realistically address all of the repairs that i need to do, when I hope to spend under a hundred dollars!
