Billy Bookcases

2006-08-07-lamps.jpg

In case you didn't check out AT: Chicago yesterday, this is the photo from their post about the Kelso lamp.

While we do like the simplicity and sleekness of the lamp, what we actually wanted to point out was how great the basic Billy bookcases look when they're in multiples. Since they're the Billy with optional height extension units, they could look just like built-ins in the right space. (And note the different-sized shelves. They look much better than having everything lined up in perfect little rows.)

Since this is SF, however, we suggest bolting them to the wall so they don't fall over during a quake.

Wow - I thought these were built-ins. I've been thinking about changing up my bedroom and my church bed and moving it to the opposite wall with some bookcases behind it; then creating a seating area under the window. This is perfect - thanks!

This is EXACTLY what I did in my living room. I've got the Billy's with the height extenders reaching up to the ceiling down one wall and wrapped around a corner onto another. Mine are the darker "wood" variety but the effect is very librarian-clubby and I just LOVE the coziness of it.
But living in Pasadena - I've got to get them BOLTED!!!!
(I hope that will also resolve the little gaps created by the shelves resting on uneven floors.)

Don't forget to check out what you can do with the glass doors that go with the Billy's. You can introduce pattern with fabric that you attach to boards that snap into place inside the glass. Very cool!!

I disagree about not having the shelves aligned. That would drive me bonkers. Must be the Virgo in me.
