Ornate is generally not our thing (case in point: Brocade Home), but we're finding it has more appeal when rendered in plastic.
Case in point #2: the $8 Baroque Wall Shelf from German home accessories design house Koziol, makers of our houseplants' favorite watering can, the Elise (we like it so much that we actually use it).
This little (6.5"w x 3.75"d x 5"h.) shelf has wit and pizzazz. A great spot for something with modern contrast, like a sleek lamp, or your iPod.
In transparent orange and pink, white, or black, at Rose and Radish.
I'm a little baked today so ... Imagine one wall, painted in a complementary color, and two dozen of these carefully arranged on said wall, on a precise, repeating pattern just like wallpaper. No objects allowed on any of them, well maybe something carefully thought out...

The 70-something former owner of our former house in upstate NY left behind a pair of plastic wall sconces not unlike these. I eventually decluttered them. Had I But Known that they were slated to be icons of style...
I must confess, my aesthetic is so *not* AT, I don't know why I love you so... and I am passionately digging these. I am considering channelling Mario Buatta's use of wall shelves in his 2006 Kip's Bay Decorator show house...
