Porcupine CD Rack

2007_07_25_porcupine-cd-rac.jpgIf you're an audiophile with a large music library, imagine how great it would be to have a CD storage system that integrated the look-up ease of a card catalogue with the browse-ability of the stacks.

The Porcupine CD Rack might be the one. Each prickly rack is designed to be mounted on the wall, which means your collection is always visible and accessible, and oriented horizontally for easy scanning of titles. And since it houses a whole lotta CDs (27) in that small wallprint, it delivers all this usability without dominating a room.

We're envisioning a neat row of these 15 5/8" satin anodized aluminum shelves integrated into a media center, at browsing level.

Custom-hardware specialist David Mockett in Torrance, CA. is the designer and manufacturer of the Porcupine and they seem to be running low on them, so if you like the idea, jump on it right away.

$23 apiece, here.

"a whole lotta cds" is 27?

That doesn't even cover Fleetwood Mac's catalog.

I'd be interested to know if any readers have a decent cd storage system that keeps the cd and information (booklet and backing) but gets rid of the jewel case? I have a 'whole lotta cd's' (around 2000) that are currently packed away due to remodeling, but when the time comes to display them I don't think I'll have enough wall space.

tobermory -

what about using an attractive binder (like a russell hazel one) filled with those cd binder sheets that are available at most office supply stores? i think those will even fit the cd booklet.

There are sleeves that will hold the liner notes and the backing.

anh-minh: Ana is right. There was a whole discussion about it on AT before here:

At the bottom is my manifesto on the subject of plastic sleeves as an alternative to jewel cases.
