We just bought two of these - they were really easy to put together! I just wish they were taller...

These shelves are made to dissapear once you place books on them. I posted different models available around the globe on my post, with examples of how books seem to float on air ;-)

The two I mentioned ordering above, arrived, and I assembled the first one last night. Compared to the Sapiens, these are uglier because of the strange squat dimensions, more poorly engineered (and wobblier), take much more time to assemble, and have a less attractive finish. but cost 70% less.

Each shelf requires two chrome-finish screws that protrude from the back, making the back not something you'd want to display (unlike the Sapiens). The shelves are made from thinner (or softer) metal, so they flex - which is disconcerting.

I'm considering craigslisting these knockoffs, since I'll at least break even. I strongly recommend the tall Sapien from DWR. Height is the single most compelling feature in these shelves, and it's (obviously) the direct determinant of how many books/sqft of floor space you'll get. The tall Sapiens are expensive, but you won't regret the choice because of how very well-made they are. (Assuming you generally like the aesthetic).
