Tansu Collection at VivaTerra

It seems like a natural development for VivaTerra — whom we have long looked to for green, organic-modern home furnishings — to stock tansu, Japanese kiri wood storage chests. And we're loving the use of a tall one next to the claw foot tub, as pictured.

The kiri wood is extremely light and airy, with a very pleasant smell that will cling to whatever small notions get stored in it.

$139 for the for the 4-drawer version, and $349 for the 8-drawer version, here.

This I love, and the price is just right.

Actually, the prices are really inflated compared to what you can find them for in Japan (at least for a non-antique variety). Small tansu similar to the 4-drawer variety, can be had for between $30 and $80 in Tokyo.

What's your source Orchid64? I find it hard to believe that something of a similar size and craftsmanship would go for $30-$80, *especially* in Japan.

And then you have to get it from Japan. There are versions in the Japanese stores in Gardena and here in LA, but this is a good price. The really big, antique ones fetch much more.

I think you need a well-ventilated bathroom though.
