it's ugly. i appreciate what they are trying to do, but it's just ugly.

You know, I don't mind it.
When I first read the post, I was looking at the blue house and never even noticed it. So, even though it's not my style and doesn't fit with the neighborhood, it also does not stand out and announce itself.

So, good job.

I live a block away and it's much better in person, the photos are deceiving

It's great. I think it's a breath of fresh air in our fair city. I'd way rather see something avant-garde like this than the awful faux-victorian crap that usually gets built. As for fitting in, it keeps to the roof line and the facade plane of the rest of the block, which is much more considerate than most new housing.

I really like it. The geometry is simple and the finishes are understated. It contrasts by taking away all the victorian adornment but blends by staying in porportion with the other buildings. I think the contrast works and I totally agree with Jason that it is way better than the cheap stucco facades that pop up every day.

I don't live in S.F. anymore but I have to say that looks really, really cool.

I'm a fan of modern and agree that often times some end results are articulated in a very sterile and "office building" way.

But this, the glass, the lines, it's almost as if it isn't there. It's like the sky. I'm also seeing it as some kind of modern extension of the beautiful house on the left.

I think this is a very respectable addition to the neighborhood.

It is what I love about humans and architecture. So much choice and diversity. We like something, move across the world and recreate what made us happy. Whether it is modern, an earth house, a yurt, even a McMansion... Human critters are fascinating in their choices. I know those who teach architecture BELIEVE the design and the surroundings must have some sort of surreal symbols in common. I like mish-mash. There is something so ultimately human about it. A house is a human product. It is not a product of nature. I may be very weird, but that is what I like about it. That is what makes it so interesting.

Looks good. Not sure about living the frosted glass, if that is what the front windows are.

I'm taking a Historic Preservation class in my college's Urban Studies and Planning department and this is a good example of placing modern design in a pre-existing neighborhood.

Looking at the pics on SocketSite I can't help but wonder what's going on with the sloppy seams? It looks really bad.

Every time I see the photo, my eye skips right over the modern house.

Horrible, not because it's modern, but because it doesn't provide that level of visual transparency and surface modulation/interest that is usually present in, love em' or hate em', Victorians, or for that matter, any good contemporary construction. Contributing to this is the insertion of the garage door in an older SF alley that's generally free of them (see adjacent buildings).

I'll have to remember to search for this address in a month or so when the house is actually completed.

The building is fine- but what's up with the neighboor's nasty trees?!
