apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

#14: Petite's Live/Work on the Park

Name: Petite in Pacific Heights
Location: San Francisco
Size & Type: 420 sq. ft. studio

Favorite resource: "Small Space Big Style" program on HGTV

Pitch: I live and work out of my apartment. I love the neighborhood and the beautiful Alta Plaza Park across the street. The whole length of my apartment is made up of double/french windows. Bathroom, Closet, Living Room and Sleeping Alcove all have views of the park.

Pitch Cont'd: I had a bookshelf built in my sleeping alcove to store my flat screen TV and I added shelves in my walk-in closet to maximize space. Every bit of space is used. My motto is "If I can eat it or wear it, I can't bring it home."

Your favorite element: My favorite element in my home is my custom desk I had made. It holds my computer, TV, printer, fax files and books. When I am done with work I simply close it up. Almost as good as having a separate office.

It's beautiful! But...don't you really mean if you can't eat it or wear it, you don't bring it home? (or are you a starving nudist?)

Lovely!

So are there different colors of off-white paint on your walls, or is the combination of lighting and all the molding just creating that illusion? It works either way...

The different rooms of your house feel disjointed, especialy the first picture, where the kitchen is dramaticaly darker that the main room.
But I like your desk set up. It's nice to see an entry address an actual small space solution, rather that focusing entirely on how pretty everything is.

I love your taste. But I think it needs color. Either on the walls or a colorful area rug - a Persian rug would go well with your style, and you can find them on Craiglist at good prices usually. They last practically forever.

I'm jealous of your apartment - French doors *and* architectural details! Nice find.

I like it but the pictures look dark. The sun must shine through those windows sometime during the day. That would have been the time to take the pictures. I could certainly live in your place though. It's one of the nicer places we've seen.

Your sleeping alcove looks so cosy, I like it. I'm guessing (because they're slipcovered) that the dining chairs are just there until you find something else - if that's true, I'd try replacing them with something with a wider back, as these ones look quite uptight rather than something you'd like to sit in as you linger over dinner/views.

Your apartment is so beautiful and calming...it reminds me of Diane Keaton's home in Something's Gotta Give!

Where did you get the desk custom made? I'd love to see pics of it opened up to see how the TV and workspace live together!
