I really like the bones of this place, the kitchen nook is also really cool, you could really play that up!

I have to agree. It seems like you've got a good sense of "clean and neat" but I'm not seeing any design elements or individuality.

I've gotta give ya props for utilizing sidewalk finds. Good use of materials for your desk. And is that a red table paired with your groovy green dining chairs? Cool.

This must be a cool old building. I really like the bay window and the kitchen built-ins. The fireplace is not attractive, but I suppose a renter can't do much about that. Perhaps it had a nice mantel surround at one time.

Kurt, that's San Francisco Random Bathroom Placement (SFBP). In apartments of a certain age, the bathroom is placed wherever it's most convenient for the plumbing, without regard for social niceties. This is how we ended up with a bathroom next to the front door and a bedroom that visitors kind of fell into upon entering, unless the host thrust them down the chute-like hall to the living room.

I think this use of space is logical intuitively. Reminds me of my first place in NYC. Still, I don't think you've added anything fabulous enough.

I'm surprised how many negative votes this received because I think its simplicity and minimalism make it really appealing and inviting. A lot of the places on this site have this self-consciously "done" look that looks forced, precious, artificial and a little embarrassing because they're simply trying too hard. When I see a place like Casey's, what it tells me about the person who lives there is that he/she is confident enough not to pimp up his place to look like a magazine spread, and also he has a great attitude about life -- he's not trying to impress anyone. His place is functional, comfortable, full of light and in the middle of one of the world's great cities.
Having said all that, there is a really interesting mix of styles, like the 50s chrome dinette chairs and the wooden banker's chair. And that kitchen is so much cooler than the stainless-steel/granite/farmhouse cabinet look that I see everywhere.
Everyone has their own idea of what "cool" is, but in my book it's this kind of effortless style that will never look dated. Congrats on a great place... your real prize is living there!
