My living and dining area is about 300sft. I try to make this small space cool and functional with minimum budget. I found two Asian-style end tables and modern Italian sofa in thrift store and they complement each other very well.

living space looks, would like to seem more of the kitchen. I am amazed they squeezed in an extra half bath.

Nice use of white & wall colors although a bit spare for my taste.
Wish we could have seen more elements, maybe the bedroom, since all 3 photos essentially show the same space from different angles (including reflection in entry way mirror).

That sofa is a great thrift store find but beyond the DIY showbox, I'm at a loss for what you did besides go shopping. And is it just me, or does that "art" on the walls look like bad early-90s office decor?

that's a shoe box? please expain how you did that.

I agree about pictures of other parts of the apartment would have been helpful.

Nice place, but you have to bite the bullet and compost that poinsettia immediately. It's an eyesore. Really.

And, oh. Lower those pictures. For some reason most people hang their artwork way too high, so you're not alone.

I like the eclectic quality of this space and the overall soothing color, although it is a bit subdued, but nice.
I like the purple table top against that colored wall. Ok, so the art is too high; the art doesn't appeal to me personally but its not my place.
I think, all-in-all, this is nice. It's neat, relaxing looking, the use of the shoeholder in the entry way is ingenious although I hope it isn't holding shoes...I'd like to see a small rug somewhere but I think this is a really great effort.

I wish there was more variety in the photography. Showing the living room from 3 angles is defiantly hurting this entry.

why does sf still use the 'rubbishmola' qualificaton, whereas the others dropped it?
i like the feel of this place, but wished there were more pictures than just this livingroom to judge it.
good luck in the competition :)

I really like your entryway. Beautiful coloring and a good use of space. I'm not picking up on the Eastern flavors though.

Please put that poor, defoliated poinsettia (?) out of it's misery!
Honestly, this looks sort of unlived in. The architecture is bland (all too common in new buildings). The furnishings look kind of like they belong in the waiting room of a doctors office. Maybe a rug would help. And some chairs. I could see slipper chairs upholstered in a beautiful printed fabric a la Kelly Wearstler. And a pretty chinoiserie tray on the coffee table with a bouquet and maybe a book or two.
Don't cling exclusively to an "Asian" style when you go about getting more furniture. Mixing styles always looks better to my eye.
Thanks for sharing.

Great continuity with the paint scheme, from what I can see. Low lying furniture seems to complement one another, but the red topped table and 2 stools in the corner of the living room don't quite seem to fit in.

love the entryway and shoebox. the paint colors are very soothing. also like the warm tones of the wood furniture and how they contrast with the modern white coffee table. do have to agree with a few of the other commentors on the artwork - it's not quite doing it for me!

I think I'd really like your floating shoebox if I got a better look at it. The conception is brilliant. The white leather couch/Asian side table are wonderful together and complemented by the brown wall, but the dining area looks unfinished and I think the living area could also use a rug. But kudos to you for having plants, especially the much-maligned straggly poinsettia. :-) Plants provide life in a space, and imperfections come with life.

too model-home for me. into the art above the toilet though (as seen on your flickr)!

I love the uncluttered nature of this place... combined with the colors a very calming retreat. Important is a small space.

Can't say I love the living room. I was over this place...until I came across Rena's link to her other photos in the comments. The bedroom looks so bright and cozy. Great mix of pink, green and silver. And the bathroom! Brilliant! Very clever colour scheme. It's a shame that the contest only allows three photos. I think this apartment would fare better in the contest with a picture of the bedroom and bathroom.

I like your powder room and your bedroom much more than the living room, too. There is only something with the big picture with the leaf that is disturbing - should stay more left, or lower? Living room is not cohesive, for me creamy white or silver would be much better with lilac and grey.

Where does that Prouvé gueridon table knock off come from? I had no idea it had been copied.

i was kind of thinking not my style until i saw your other pictures.. i love the bedroom!! definitely changed my vote.

The table was available at Target from the Thomas O'Brien collection but I believe they no longer carry it - at least not online.
And, aside from the round top, it really isn't a knock-off of the Pouvre design. You could say it was inspired by Pouvre, but you could say that of all round tables designed before or after the Gueridon.

A few too many negative comments here. There's a lot to like! The brown accent wall in the entryway and the gray accent wall in the dining area are terrific, and that's the kind of minimal painting a renter could try at home. The shoebox is both lovely and clever and in keeping with the Asian influence. Love the purple-topped dining table and stools. I might call it "eccentric meets feminine".

I adore this. It's clean, calming and wonderful. Insta-finalist in my book.
The floating shoebox is genius! What are the measurements? Is the mirror in your entry one of those door mirrors you can find at a hardware store, because it looks like much more.

I like the earthy colours on the wall. The stools in the living room really don't belong there though. Agree with the earlier comments that it looks unlived in; maybe overedited for the pictures? Nice work!

I'll repeat that I really don't like contestants circumventing the three-picture rule by posting links to Flcker accounts. It really unlevels the playing field.
view patrick (the other one)'s profile
I am with patrick (the other one) on circumventing the three photo rule by linking to other images. The space is nice, and has some interesting qualities (except for the poinsettia and the Ikea torchere, which both need to go), but I think posting links to other images should disqualify this entry.

Oh, poo! This is nice, but your powder room out-shines anything you submitted here for consideration.

Maxwell,
For future contest can contestant be allowed at least six (yes, 6) photographs of their submissions. Three just does not allow for much to be seen and judged.
It would also cease the grumblings.
