What’s your next improvement?:
Living in a small, rental apartment can present many design challenges: limited storage space, restrictive landlords, constrictive living quarters. I'm constantly keeping an eye out for clever ways to maximize my minimal space with my even smaller budget. That said, as far as my next improvement, there isn't one specific alteration I plan to make. Instead, I've adopted a general home-improvement philosophy that I admittedly stole from one of my favorite designers, Jonathan Adler. Adler's manifesto includes many points, but perhaps the most poignant simply states: "We believe that your home should make you happy." As time rolls along, I'm sure that my home will continue to change as I become inspired by new things. Still, one thing will remain the same; my home will always be the place where I live and love.

The coffeemaker is from Bloomingdales--they're the only ones that sell it in that color.

there seem to be lots of great little touches that make your place unique. it is really setting itself apart from some of the other entries because they seem very personal and thought-out. also, i love your bedroom!

great, great, great!

I love your place. Everything is neat and clean...and nothing looks out of place.

Also, your bedside table is awesome.

Nice and neat, but a little bland. I am hoping you add more color.

I liked this on first sight but like it even more now. Your "B E D" letters are too cute.

Charming. How in the heck do you small space people keep everything so spare and neat? Do you all do the cure? this apartment makes me totally embarassed of all of my tchotchkes! Great photography too, BTW.

Lovely, and I think the little splashes of color work better than if you painted every wall a bright color. Subtle isn't necessarily boring, Tbd.

For what it's worth, the video is mostly about details of accessories -- the corners of things -- and not about the apartment...I don't get it.

Your video was entertaining to watch, but I agree with Ingrid, it didn't provide an adequate look at your apartment, just select items in it.

I liked the video a lot better than the apartment, sorry to say.

Thanks for your comments, Ingrid and Sydney. No worries, I'm glad to hear what everyone thinks--the good and the bad. I guess that I think it's the details that make my apartment cool. Especially since I'm a renter and I can't make larger changes (e.g. painting the walls, adding new built-in lighting, etc.). They're the little touches that make it uniquely me.

Waylon, are you referring to the bookcase in the living room? If so, it's a built-in unit.

Yeah, I can't really tell much about the apartment because the videos and photos are all of the small details. I can't get a sense of the overall space. Dissapointing.

i like the original entries photos better-- they tell more of a story! it would have been nice to have more informative pictures accompany your video of small parts of your apartment that you love.

not limited to this particular entry, this contest is making me wish I lived alone-- seems like then you can really concentrate on making a cozy well-defined interior!
