Love how it's light and airy and still filled with books.

watching your kitchen picture makes me really happy, can it be this is the first one posted where i can imagine people actually cooking? the rest is cool too, though i hate to think about wanting that book in the bottom of the stack...

and one got to love an apartment with a good choice of books to choose from, especially from the bed :-)

Really? No comments yet?

I love seeing places that are really challenging - i.e. long & narrow, or funny shapes. This house tackles the long & narrow admirably. I wish I could have seen a few more wide angle shots - but I know how difficult that is in narrow spaces. Particularly interesting were the table/chairs intergrated into the kitchen space, and the tons of sensible storage: simple bookshelves & clear glass jars give you a lot of storage AND a lot of unity in small spaces.

And I love it when people recognize that it IS quality we should be looking for - not quantity!

Terrific space, but much of what we saw was good bones (the paneling by the Eames chair; the kitchen cabinets, the great window) unless you added these things yourself. Loved the bookshelves in the bedroom. Warms it up.

Beautiful space, but this feels more like it is about a nice remodel than a well done small space. Not enough shots to really get a feel for it.

I haven't been voting on the larger apartments, because the smaller ones have been wowing me with their craftiness so much more. That said, you totally got me with the pantry shot, so I voted super cool!

This apartment is such a nice blend of style and livability, as well as high and low priced items. I think it really embodies the ideas of buying some key pieces, editing carefully, and using your imagination. The milk jugs are genius, I'm going to start downing some milk!

Ditto on the kitchen and dry goods storage!

I had an apartment with almost the exact floor plan and can appreciate the challenge it presents. Great job!

If you give me that kitchen, I promise to vote super cool. This is a fantastic use of a very small, narrow space. And it doesn't make me want to run out of there, as other entries have. It makes me want to sit down and read a good book!

I like how you set the table for us all to come over and have dinner! Your apartment looks like you are organized and thoughtful. I'm impressed with the display of dry goods, and also your cool magnet collection, because it adds a quirky personality in what might look like an ad for something otherwise (because of your attention to detail). I think this apartment is an outstanding example of attention to detail, actually.

I loved this one as well and so envy the kitchen and book storage. This is a great looking place which looks lived in and inviting. The (leather?) lounge chair is ugly yet still works in this space. I voted "super cool" for how well this comes together.

Thank you all for your kind words. BTW, there is only one dish washer. The other dishwasher-looking thing is an under-counter fridge. There is a full size fridge and a large freezer in the garage, so the little fridge is for everyday stuff like milk and eggs. And the stack of books in the livingroom is held in place by a clever Sapien bookshelf, so you can remove the bottom book without any trouble.

For BrooklynBob who asked... the stainles steel shelves in the living room were purchased for about 200 dollars at the Design Within Reach warehouse sale in Union City, CA just before they relocated to a new facility in Tennessee or Kentucky, hence the good price.

and both are very nice indeed. I especially like the juxtaposition of the new with the old in the kitchen/pantry

Please tell me more about your kitchen cabinets. I love them and want to know, what are they made of? What's the stain color? It's the exact warm, not too light, not too dark and not too country hue that I'm looking for.
Please tell us more about the kitchen.

I think (and this is just me), this is what AT is about. Not perfect, not staged, not "DWR catalog"... just a real home with just enough luxury, heart, and utilitarianism to make the dweller happy. It's not brand-spanking-new, gadgety or edgy... and it doesn't want to be. It's simply comfortable, smart and well lived. (I love placing sets of three words in every description. lol)

Just one thing I don't like, (but that's 'cause I believe in feng-shui...) the shelves or "swords" in front of the bed which acording to tradition could have the potential of fights, headaches, etc. But if it works for you, great.

Oh this is a wonderfull place and what a challenge to deal with the long and narrow space! Love the look of the space too. Well done and very inviting too.

What I love about this place is that while elegant, it's not pretentious in any sort of way and while the kitchen has the now cliche'd look of black granite and stainless steel appliances, it's execution is less a wanna be, gotta keep up with the joneses than a real kitchen for someone who really cooks.

The jar idea for bulk dry goods is a fantastic idea btw.

Nice going!

For Carrie Too: The kitchen cabinets are cherry wood and were bought at Floorcraft on Bay Shore Blvd. in San Francisco. Ask for Hector. Great guy. I believe they were manufactured by Diamond. The drawer pulls and knobs were from Bauerware on 17th St.

(I purposely use my pair for separate uses too).

what's that blue--it's perfect. need it.

this is beautiful. the idea with great 'bones' is to not obstruct view of them. if people notice them, then you are doing well. and you sure did.

love the books across from bed--and lovely bed. the kitchen--to swoon over. agree that table set is a nice touch. eames chair, ahhhhh. agree that it's not a 'set' look but a real home.

love it. enjoy your life in it.

I'm sure I'll regret asking this but do you have a claw for a hand? That floorplan looks like it was made with a claw-hand.

The place is very nice --- though I would have liked to see more "establishing" shots so I could have a better idea of how everything fits together.

Good luck in the contest.
