What is the advantage of SMALL? CONT'D

...Every decision that is make about my home lives with me. I grew up with a large family in a small home so I feel like a rich man having this entire studio apartment to myself.

What's your favorite resource for your home?

Apartment Therapy Home Tours... When I first discovered AT I spent hours going through the archives looking into peoples homes and taking cues from their arrangements and colors.

What is your one favorite element in your small, cool home?

The original details! I grew up in Arizona and have never lived anywhere with hardwoods or molding. I love walking barefoot on my floors and I love the thick crown molding everywhere. They make for a good warm back drop.

Nice, but nothing...WOW.

I did, love the wallpaper on the bedroom wall, though.

Yay, more seattlites!
I love the bedroom wallpaper and your antlers, but four seems like alot. I love how they're arranged over the doorway.
Also, I think you need to move keep calm and carry on down a few inches.

Did you buy or make your wall decal, and where did you get your cool birds?

I'm confused, where is the bed in relation to the couch?
Desk area?

I see a good start but some details need to be addressed...like the light over the dining table. It could be covered with a large drum shade.

What is wrong with the chandelier? I thought the space was kind of copy-cat/ trend-themed, pleasant enough... what purpose would a drum shade serve?

Um.... Need more energy? Does that make sense? I was bored seeing the slides. The place seems so dim...

It really does look like you took almost all your design and style from AT posts. I prefer a more personally developed style.

The tired-trendy bits were a detriment. Deer heads, the tree/bird motif, the "Keep calm..." poster. So over, and so unoriginal.

Sorry.

I enjoyed this entry. There's a nice flow to the space. I like the soft colors used in the living areas. And, although not my style, I really liked the bedroom with that wallpaper and decor. There isn't a great new storage or living solution here, but very few entries have that this year. To me it looks like a comfortable home that someone actually lives in.

And more than one person can have the same poster (keep calm) or decor.

I like how the space doesn't feel small at all.

Birds, deer heads, Keep Calm, tree wall decals...

The space is pleasant, but it'll be an easy mark for Guess the Decade.

Love the space, especially all the cabinetry in the kitchen. Also really digging the wallpaper in the bedroom!

First commenter hit the mark. Not wowza - just plain nice. not loving the wall graphic, although the wall paper was pretty nifty.

some of these places are starting to appear cultish to me. sort of safehouses for young and not particularly imaginative at devotees in different geographical spaces. the occupants, as well as the spaces, seem interchangeable. "keep calm and carry on", I say get nervous, explore, try and fail. tranquilized, but not tranquil.

I think it's trendier to hate those posters than to like them, so I say hang onto it and buck the trend!

I thought this was a nice space but not special enough for me to give it a cool. Nice apartment, though.

This looks like a design-student thesis. Very predictable, but at least it is uncluttered and well put together.

People are kind of being dicks, it seems. And it seems like it's mostly because of your positioning within the contest - had your entry been up earlier, before we saw a thousand "Keep Calm and Carry On" posters, you might not be bearing the brunt of their frustration (frustration that does seem valid, overall, but perhaps does not need to be taken out on you).

Oh, and I did the same thing (go through archives to look at tours) when I first found Apartment Therapy!

I think theseboots makes good points. The more places people see, the harsher they judge subsequent entries.

I liked this. It's clean, cool, but looks lived in. The white sweeping chair resembles an elegant lady in a dress sitting down. The white and silver is very nicely broken up by wall art or items with color. It's also got one of the few rather "bare" kitchens that looks like its that way because of the amble cabinet space and not because it's never used.

I would also like to encourage everyone who comments to remember people live in these places and put effort into them. Your comments can encourage them or hurt them. Treating the pictures as if they're here only to entertain you and to be derisive or dismissive is not only unhelpful but rude. Sometimes it seems people forget that everything isn't out there to amuse them as if they were bored royalty breaking up their day.

I think I might like the sofa but since the pictures are so tight, I can't really tell. But I love furniture covered in masculine fabrics such as houndstooth, tweed or herringbone.

I really like the balance in the picture that features the fish cushion and "Keep Calm." There's a nice repetition of colour and a lively contrast in scale. It's complex without being busy. Thanks for sharing it with us.

There are wayyyy too many entries in this competition! This place IS adorable, cohesive, uncluttered and small&cool, but as I have seen so many, hardly anything "wows" me anymore.

Good work.

I like the way you seem to put your heart into making this your own space and how much enjoyment you get from it. I think you did a great job in creating a functional place for yourself. I love the wall paper in the bedroom area and also the kitchen cabinetry is fabulous.
