Your place looks lovely, but is there some way the technical wizards at AT could correct the strong blue cast to the photos? It's hard to get a real sense of the atmosphere with the color so distorted.

Where did you get the topmost tree art over your vanity? The perfume shelf area... love it.

Looking at your floorplan, would your bed fit in the "office"? have you already though of that? I thought you'd maybe be a canidate for a womb-bedroom.

It looks very soft and serene, what is that mirror next to the chaise... on the floor?

It looks really cozy and warm. A nice place to come home to after a foggy, cold SF day.

Just looking at the pictures makes me feel relaxed! Perhaps it's in part to the funky lighting of the pics - but this really looks like a comfy, relaxing place to come home to. I like the muted color scheme.

And does everyone in the world have that "Keep Calm and Carry On" print?? It seems to be everywhere! [I like it :-) ]

Do you worry about having the shelf and painting above the bed? I get paranoid about putting anything there lest an earthquake happen when I'm sleeping..

I love it!

The low to the floor focus of your bedroom is particularly relaxing. The placement of the lateral bookcase beneath the window seat, rectangular mirror, round floor pillows and the comfy shag carpet all make for an inviting space. Looks perfect for stretching out on the floor to read a book.

The bed seems to take over the studio while there appears to be a smaller room (the office) in which to put a bed, even if there's no room for anything else. Lovely place, and great sun and what a terrific kitchen.

Excuse me while I mop up this bay-window-induced drool puddle.

Very nice! I like this alot! Love the layout, especially the kitchen. Its great that you get lots of sunlight in your place which makes it feel nice and cozy.

I would have voted 'cool' but you had a 'Keep Calm And Carry On" poster.

I have 495sq studio and I swear yours looks larger. Where most space for me is wasted is a 10ft closet and a long hallway.

Love the bay window photos. What did you use for your (modular?) bookshelves along the floor in front of it? Do you find that they collect dust bunnies positioned like that on the floor? I also love your doors to the kitchen with the glass panes--those kinds of doors seem like little nonexistent wisps, they're not as visually heavy as solid doors.

the apartment doesn't live up to the potential given to it by the floorplan . With such great bones I expect more.

Places like this cause me to start mentally rearranging furniture. Like a couple of other posters, if it were mine I'd probably try to squeeze a small bed into your office for privacy and put a sleep sofa of some kind in the living room for guests/sleepovers. Maybe that's not possible though - it looks like a very tight fit from the floor plan.

And my first thought, also, was "put the bed in the closet"; and then I realized that this is one person's sole, perfect space, designed for her and no one else. And then I felt all warm inside.

You people worry to much about EARTHQUAKES! As a native californian and experienced many earthquakes, big ones and small ones that should be the least of your worries. If a big enough earthquake hits to shake the picture off and bring the bookshelf down above the bed its going to be the same anywhere in the apartment.

Anyway, I think the apartment is great. I especially love the nice touch of the shelf above the bed!

I must say the first thing i noticed was the "keep calm and carry on" while i like the poster I've seen it too much so I don't know whether to think it's cool or played out.

Very cool. I just want to see what was done with the little office room... at first, I thought maybe 2 people lived there, so the other office is that second person's and not to be entered/photographed.

oh well i LIKE the shelf over the bed but my (admitted) paranoia comes from being in the unluckiest, un-retrofitted spots ever during the last few big shakers, seeing all sorts of stuff fly off the walls. so, i guess i just like knowing that less stuff has a chance of falling on my head.

I don't find any reason for the shelf over the bed either, mostly because it's not apparently for storage of excessive knickknacks that couldn't be somewhere else, but more in place of not having a headboard to "finish" the space. I'm just (almost) glad the stuffed animals aren't on it. Although that would be safer in an earthquake, the apartment seems to retain a little too young a feel to be super cool.

My favorite is the bedroom. The layout with the windows, bookshelves and reading chaise is really nice. The rest of the apartment still needs work - there is no cohesive design element to it. Very haphazard choices in furnishings and accessories. There's definitely a lot more potential in the space.

Beautiful space and great light... love the window seats!

The colors, the chaise, all very peaceful and welcoming at the end of the day. Like a few others though, I can't help wanting to rearrange the furniture. Those window seats are begging for cusions, and I would definitely be finding the bed that would fit in that office alcove, or finding a Murphy-bed type solution. Not that it isn't lovely as it is, only that I'd want to be able to stretch out and live in that lovely room more than the bed allows for taking up the space it does at present.

Believe me, I tried the bed in the closet thing, but I wasn't into sleeping lopsided or giving up my comfy bed. Plus I needed extra storage for clothes and an office area to work in. The topmost tree art was a gift from an artist friend and the bookshelves lining the floor are found wine crates. And as you'll see in the flikr photos, I have antique mirrors all over to make the space feel bigger.
As far as the shelf above the bed goes, there is nothing on it that would hurt me if there was an earthquake. It also serves as a source of light for reading in bed - there are three spotlights attached to the underside of the shelf.
Thanks for the comments on the Keep Calm and Carry On poster - I didn't realize it was so played, but I think I'll keep it anyway! Oh and my little animals on the chaise lounge aren't going anywhere either. Most everything in here has a story attached to it, which makes for a much more interesting space - I think.

Its a shame about the negative comments about the Keep Calm poster. It's being "played" was the subject of comments in the recent post of Victoria's (of sfgirlbybay) apartment. But I think Victoria is right in that it is a sentiment that resonates with a lot of us these days, and we should look at it as a way that we are united in that feeling, as opposed to a played out trend. To see a bold statement like "Keep Calm and Carry On" in your home every day can really put things in perspective.

i love this space. its warm and inviting and has a sense of home immediately. i dont mind the stuff animals. i dont get a sense of childishness at all , they aren't typical and tacky. i love the art, love the kitchen and love the perfume display! some great spaces posted but this one really stands out to me as the most charming!

wow! unbelievable balance of textures and warmth! love the modular shape interplay and the use of ocher yellows and baby blues throughout your home. not as simply done as going with just a black and white palate. this looks like someones loved, lived in space and not a picture from a catalog of cold "ready-to-order" and preconceived designs. congrats! you have a true sense of style you can live with!

Blah - as happens in seemingly every AT contest the original poster puts up a link to more images...which is CHEATING.

Secondly, this space is nice and homey, but boring. There is nothing that really pops out as "COOL" - just nicely managed space despite the poor quality photographs.

I LOVE this space. I am a little person, and want a house that is bright and cheery and comfortable, and just big enough for me -- and possibly another overnight guest occasionally. I love it. Can I say that again? I LOVE IT. If I could pick up this place and move it to Seattle and call it my own, I would. It's perfect. Don't change anything.

Can i come over and read a magazine on ur rug? Looks like a great place to lounge about! I like the way you've arranged things close to the ground and avoided furniture with harsh corners - it adds to the soft, pleasant feel ur apt has overall.

U have a great place where i wouldn't feel guilty for stayin in on a sunny day because it's so breezy and bright!

I really like the table that you have your lap top on, it's a great space saver! Where did you get that from?
