What was one of the biggest challenges you faced in furnishing your small home? Our biggest challenge in furnishing our home is finding pieces that are multipurpose. The dining room table also serves as my desk and the baby's changing table is an old dresser I bought at Goodwill. I've always loved this glass-topped wood coffee table that my mom gave me but my husband hated how much space it took up in the living room. The third or fourth time he stubbed his toe on the leg, it went into the basement. We found an ottoman at West Elm that is a coffee table and extra seating and no one's broken a toe yet.

I like the black around the fireplace a lot.

I like the checkerboard kitchen floor, and I think I like the foyer too. I can't tell because I think that your camera has made all the beautiful colors look washed out. I also love all the fresh flower arrangements!

I enjoy your space. I like the idea with putting all the...postcards I guess? under glass on your kitchen table. The only thing that bothers me is that it looks like a postcard is missing or there is an empty space on the nearer edge of the table. For me it kind of ruins the continuity and almost makes it look like just a pile of stuff all over your table. That's the only nitpick I have!

Like the colors! Where is that painting in the first pic from? It´s great!

I feel like next year might deserve a 'family' division for apartments with more than two people in them. The fact that you have a 2 month old here makes it even more impressive.

this is such a cute place!
it's obvious, based on what i vote for versus what seems to get the majority of votes, that there are a lot of apartmenttherapy folks who don't share my taste.
i love seeing homes that aren't uber modern, and i think it's a shame that it looks like most of the finalists for small cool will be just that.

Thanks! I should point out that the painting on the wall is by my husband, Chris Paynter. I also neglected to mention his name in the list of occupants. Sorry! Everything in the house is a collaboration between us, I just take all of the credit. ;) Alisa
