What was one of the biggest challenges you faced in furnishing your small home? Not making the space cluttered, maintaining the openness of its floor plan. Adding a set of full height sliding frosted glass doors to the open bedroom allowed us to separate that private area while promoting the concept of openness. Our design intent for the choice of furniture and decoration was achieved by using clean lines and geometric forms conforming to the architectural space.

The doors on the bedroom is a great solution, and I think you've definitely achieved your goal of maintaining the openness of the space, but it feels a little too cold and stark to me.

i think this layout would make more sense if the entry was on the living room side of the space, but i LOVE the decor.

To me, this place is just too bland to get my thumbs up, but it is a huge treasure-trove of architectural numminess! I do dig those doors and wish I had the money and space to do something similar.

That painting sorta looks like the Portuguese flag. Are they Portuguese, I wonder?

First of all I love the floorplan (the first thing I look at). I like the openess and the use of the glass sliding doors to still create a sense of privacy. Quite impressed with that. This is stylish and polished. I'm glad you kept the walls crisp white, I personally think all black furniture is plain weird. The contrast works well, and I like the touch of color on the art wall and chairs. My complaint would be that this still feels impersonal. I didn't feel enough warmth.

I absolutely love this apartment. Major apartment envy. Having said that, however, what are we evaluating here? Is it whether the people were able to afford an apartment that had nice fixtures put in by the builder? Or is it that they were able to use a challenging space to make it much more livable. Again, I think this apartment is gorgeous and the owners certainly did a great job to make it warmer and more inviting than all that glass would otherwise indicate. But, let's step back and evaluate it in the context of the amazing floorplan (which was, I assume, the builder's decision), the top of the line and beautiful appliances, and the stunning windows that allow for amazing views and terrific sunlight.

I've always loved the minimalist spaces, but they seem to only have limited appeal... maybe more people like the comfy cozy home-nest feel then the cool sleek simple look. *shrug*

Looks uncomfortable and staged. What's with all the black? Are you Goth teenagers? Or do you just enjoy really seeing all the detail in the dust and fingerprints?

Another SOMA "loft" with huge windows that probably don't insulate very well and offer stunning views of homeless people.

Jealous? Not at all.

That has to be one of the coolest kitchens I've ever seen. The combination of openness and the minimal dark cabinetry -- it's like a giant sculpture that energizes the whole space, rather than some frumpy thing you need to hide behind a door. Why don't more builders make kitchens like this instead of the tired faux "farmhouse" cabinets I see everywhere?
I love this whole place, you guys are so lucky to live there. Very sophisticated and generally gorgeous.
The wooden sculpture in the first photo is very cool, too. Thanks for sharing.

A very nice space but I would agree you need more color such as the painting over the dining table and the red chairs, otherwise, it's too gray/black/white for my taste.

When I saw the pic of the couch and the sliver of wall, I immediately felt a tall vertical colorful bold painting was needed near that set of windows, but in the other direction, I realized the sculpture was there and thus might compete but still, more color I think is needed to bring life to the space because as it is now, there doesn't seem to be much life but overall, the look works here pretty well.

Form function. Beautiful. Best use of space. The largest 880 sqft apt I've ever seen. Love the pop of the plywood eames. Notice how the sage sofa and red chairs in the living room match the red olive canvases in the kitchen.

I am guessing the people who live here are architects. Unfortunately this place looks like a showroom and lacks warmth or a personal touch. Needs more light, color and texture to make it come alive.

beautiful bones... but I think it still needs a little more personality. Right now it looks like no one lives there. I think that you can still balance minimalism with comfort.

Beautiful space. I adore sleek stark designs where the lines are clean, and ones bits and bobs are all hidden away.
Muji in Japan have embarked on an apartment redesign project with a `reform company` there and are creating similar spaces in terms of the layout- not the look though- harking back to the days when all ones posessions were kept in huge cupboard with sliding doors.
Agree with Trumystique in that I`d like to see more texture to break up the uniformity... or the introduction of a few deep amber of deep purple glass pieces that would work really well against all the the black.
