Small Cool 2009: Elizabeth's College Cottage
Tiny Division #31

thumbs up

Who Lives There: Elizabeth, her fiance, their two cats and a corn snake
Location: Ashland, Oregon
Size: 350 square feet

What is your one favorite element in your small, cool home? Our cottage is a renovated carriage house behind another refurbished Victorian. We love the pecan wood floors and the windows that let light stream into our space.

What was one of the biggest challenges you faced in furnishing your small home? We are both full-time college students, so it was difficult to furnish our rented cottage on a budget. We found many of our favorite pieces (such as the credenza and the wing-backed chair) through craigslist, garage sales, and hand-me-downs. Still, we wouldn't trade our cottage for the world.

woo hoo, an Ashland entry! I lived with a friend in Ashland for awhile when he went to SOU, and needless to say, the apartment was decidedly less cool and well-designed than what you've got going. Bravo!

Very cute! I have the same TV and the same kitchen table and chairs. :) I love what you've done with little money.

Thank you, everyone.

Yes, the spiral staircase leads up to a sleeping loft. We're still working on making that area of the cottage cute, though. The whole place is a work in progress, but we love it.

I just noticed that one of the day-of-the-week cards is missing! Our oldest cat has a habit of stealing them while we sleep. Hahaha.

What a wonderful cottage! It's like a fairy tale. And the kitchen is so light and comfy! Great job.
