Small Cool 2009: Panda66's Creative Storage Solutions
Tiny Division #02

thumbs up

Name: Panda66
Location: San Francisco, California
Size: 550 square feet

What is your one favorite element in your small, cool home? The built in cedar closet. It's the only closet in the house and it repels moths! It also matches the 100 year old douglass fir wood floor.

What was one of the biggest challenges you faced in furnishing your small home? There is only one closet in the house. No storage in the bathroom, bedroom or kitchen. I scaled accessories for each room down to the bare necessities. I have 2 plates/bowls/mugs; 2 towels; 2 sheet sets. Sliding shelving units are useful under the sinks. I also got creative with where I store daily use products...colorful bins in the kitchen for cleaning products; planter pots for kitchen utensils; colorful pails for garbage cans. Because there is no storage, all daily use items are out in the open so I tried to display them as colorfully and creatively as possible.

Cool spot! Do you have two bedrooms? (or a bedroom office?). It appears that you do, from the floorplan...but I might be reading it wrong.

I'm always jealous of people with fireplaces.

And your kitchen looks pretty organized for having no storage...i like those magnetic spice jars on your oven vent.

Thanks for sharing your home with us!

Gorgeous little house. Beautifully decorated and the floor plan looks very efficient. Kitchen is really cute. Love the closet!!

If I had a small home, I would want it to be exactly like this one!

Your place is really nice. It is an interesting layout but it has great flow. Are the bookshelves in the livingroom built-ins? They are nice but I think it makes the living area seem smaller. Thanks for sharing.

I could be missing something but I would like to have seen more.

Really great place even still.

Like Jess said, cozy!
A couple of things though, maybe consider hanging your fixture in the dining room a tad lower? And maybe something on top of those uppers in your kitchen would greatly emphasize that walls height.

Anyway, thanks for sharing and good luck!

Very nice. What is the color and brand of paint you have in the living room?

Great space, nice architectural features and flooring, looks sophisticated but not stuffy and tons of character. Lucky duck :)

does the bathroom open into both your bedroom and...the kitchen?? hahah i think the floorplan's a little confusing b/c I assumed the room with the closet was your bedroom, but that appears to be more a dining room from the pics. is the bottom part of the floorplan your outdoor space?

love the fireplace, and using your exhaust hood to hold your spice canisters!

Cozy and cute. But I think there is a bit too much wood in the same tones....More material / color contrast would be nice.

I think this is my favourite so far, in many ways.
