What is your one favorite element in your small, cool home? I find the large ceiling height to be beneficial in multiple ways. First, it allows a tremendous amount of sunlight in, which is much better waking up to than an alarm clock. It also allows for a huge wall canvas to work with. I've been going at it for two years, and I'm not even close to done yet. I can definitely never complain about the lack of wall space to hang my yet unframed prints. But, truthfully, just the openness it gives the place makes me happy.

What was one of the biggest challenges you faced in furnishing your small home? Paradoxically, the height of ceiling is also one of the biggest challenges. It creates a lot of vertical space which was a bit hard to figure out how to make it work. Originally, I had larger furniture in hopes their height would complement the vertical height. But it didn't seem to work, and I didn't much like the furniture anyway. I slowly replaced them with much lower to the ground furniture, and I find that it accentuates the ceiling height perfectly. Similarly, filling the large vertical wall space without making it seem cluttered with lots of small pieces is tough. I think I've managed it okay so far, but I fear that adding much more will make it too busy.

Love the use of red in your space. That bedroom lamp is gorgeous.

Very nicely done. I wrote about red today, I should have used your apartment as an example, you've made very good use of the color. I would prefer to see the books on your bookcase straightened up (the rest of your home is so neat and orderly), but that's just me - I'm anal.
I have two questions. Did you paint your table and chairs yourself? If so, what kind of paint? They turned out great. And can you tell me about the art with the red man? Is it a painting or photo and who did it? Oh - I guess that's more than two questions. Sorry.
Thanks for sharing, great job.

The chair is B-Pop Side Laminate. It's one of my favorite chairs. Very fun, playful and approchable but it's not cheap though, around $250, must be hard to do stripes. :)
I saw them at dwr.com

I like the rooms by the way.

Hi all,
The bathroom sink was installed by the developer -- all I can tell is that it's from Kohler.
The books are definitely "carefully disheveled" :)
The print of the red man was from SFMOMA. It's a photo of a sculpture by Katharina Fritsch called The Handler
The table came in red; it's the Moooi Shaker Table.
Thanks much for the positive comments!
