Who Lives There: Rhiannon, Victor and their dog, Mayo
Location: San Francisco, California
Size: 501 square feet

What is your one favorite element in your small, cool home? The natural light it receives. Our previous apartment’s windows faced a busy sidewalk and it was on the ground floor. Our blinds and windows always stayed closed. Our apartment now is on the third floor and it’s amazing how much of a difference tying our curtains back and leaving our windows open makes. It feels peaceful, airy and bright.

What was one of the biggest challenges you faced in furnishing your small home? Being patient was a challenge. When we moved in we were anxious to have the place come together quickly and we are both students lacking a large budget to work with which made it even more tempting to settle on furniture with an attractive price. We knew in the long run it would be better to hold out for things we really loved. We overcame budget constraints by doing a lot of D.I.Y. projects, but this took a lot of patience. Ebay, thrift stores, flea markets, Etsy, Ikea and even the street curb have been great resources for us.
