What was one of the biggest challenges you faced in furnishing your small home? 2 personalities, 1 small space and 1 world class view. With limited space and keeping focus on the view -- items such as a bookcase or dining table were not in the solution. Helpful resources included open houses, interior design mags and showrooms such as EQ3 & CB2.

You have a lovely apartment with a lot of potential. Love your sofa and chair. But I wish you had done something about the bare naked windows. Curtains or nice panels would soften the room and make it look more sophisticated. Also the rug in the middle of the room is oddly placed, it also clashes with the sofa and chair. It would look nicer if placed between the entrance and kitchen. I love the rug under the coffee table though. Where did you get it from?

I understand the bare windows as I know places like this in SF. You don't want anything to stand in the way of that view.

Actually the windows have ugly 90's mini blinds. Since I rent I'm not able to replace them :(
The rug under the coffee table is from an antique store in Chicago. We used to have the orange chair (now in the bedroom) by the orange rug. I'll try moving it closer to the door. Thanks for the suggestion.

There's nothing particularly amazing or inspiring about this space...in fact, it looks hollow, empty. I love the blue chair and the art, but there's so much you can do here!

I like your third photo, it makes the place look so big and airy.

In the last picture am I seeing correctly that the floorlamp seems to have it's own area rug? That's kinda weird.

You're going the right direction, but you need a few more of those pop colors, I think.

I stayed at this apartment for one week. The couch was comfy and the carpet was really nice too. I felt at home.

great little spot for a desk
the place might look more cohesive without the area rugs

Knowing the couple who lives here... all I can say is that the apartment reflects their personalities. That's what makes it so great!

I'm really drawing to the aqua color of your chair more and more. It is becoming my favorite decor color this year. You have done a great job here.

Highly efficient, functional and chic. Many different areas to comfortable hang in a compact space. In the Sunday Chicago Tribune, a lengthy front page article in Homes espouses this way of design. Well done.

A nice start to things and I agree that one rug in the middle of the floor with nothing grounding it is kind of odd and where do you eat, the coffee table? I'd rather find a small spot for a small table to eat at.
but a second look at the pics has me feeling like it's unfinished some how and yes I know it's a rental and thus you can't do much but unless you plan on staying there a good while, it kind of looks temporary to me but as I said, a nice start to making it reflect your personalities.
If it were me, I'd make that bumpout into a long desk that spans the space for working and for art creativity and find a spot for a small table.
You have the same issue I have in your living space, long but shallow so furniture placement is limited to one setup. Nice on how you you fitted in the sofa and the aqua chair.
